Birmingham – Isuzu has officially traded diesel growls for electric grins. Making a shockingly powerful entrance at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show, the New Isuzu D-Max EV was unveiled as the first fully electric commercial pick-up in Europe boasting over 1-tonne payload, 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and a full-time 4×4 system. In short, it’s as tough as ever—just with less tailpipe drama.
Gone is the clatter of combustion—replaced by the serene hum of a 66.9 kWh battery feeding dual motors that churn out 140 kW and 325 Nm. That’s enough to whisk this brute from 0-62 mph in 10.1 seconds, or about as long as it takes a roofer to say, “Where’s my ladder?” And with a WLTP range of 263 km, you’ll reach the jobsite and still have enough charge to make it to the chippy.

Built for Graft, Wired for the Future
The D-Max EV doesn’t just sip electrons—it guzzles gravel, too. Thanks to a re-engineered ladder-frame chassis and water-wading depth of 600mm, this pick-up will happily play in the mud while its competitors panic at puddles. Full-time 4×4 and a ‘Rough Terrain Mode’ ensure it’s not just ready for the road less travelled—it actively mocks tarmac.
And did we mention it tows? With a 3.5-tonne capacity, this EV could probably tow your Range Rover while you Google “what is torque?”
From Workhorse to Whisper-Horse
Swapping leaf springs for a De-Dion rear suspension, the D-Max EV improves refinement and delivers a smoother, quieter ride—unless, of course, your passenger is still shouting instructions over the non-existent engine noise. Isuzu claims up to 10% less cabin noise under full acceleration. Your ears may not thank you, but your podcast host will.
Trimmed to Impress
Two premium trims will be on offer in Extended and Double Cab configurations, mirroring the DL40 and V-Cross models—but with more voltage and less vibration. The show model arrived decked in an eye-catching “Norwegian Blue” (yes, it’s beautiful, and no, it’s not resting—it’s very much alive). Final UK colours are yet to be confirmed, but we recommend something with a pun like “Amped Anthracite.”
Charging into the Future
With regenerative braking, Eco mode, and an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, the D-Max EV is out to convince even the most diesel-dedicated contractor. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a mobile emissions-free work ethic wrapped in sheet metal.
Official Word from the Suits
Yasuhiro Takeuchi of Isuzu Motors International said it best: “We’ve engineered a fully electric pick-up that performs in real-world working environments.” Translation: this isn’t just an EV with a bed—it’s a power tool with seats.
Alan Able, MD of Isuzu UK, added: “We’re thrilled to be leading the charge.” Which is either an electrification pun or proof that Isuzu PR doesn’t miss a beat.
Availability
Pre-orders open in the second half of 2025, with UK deliveries beginning March 2026. Fleet buyers, tradespeople, and green-minded gritters, mark your calendars—and maybe start practicing how to explain kilowatt-hours to your mates down the pub.
