GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN. Polestar continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction with the latest over-the-air (OTA) update for the Polestar 3. This ninth software update since the vehicle’s 2024 launch brings enhanced functionality, software stability improvements, and for selected devices, digital key capability.
Polestar has been dedicated to continuously upgrading its vehicles post-launch, ensuring that customers benefit from cutting-edge technology throughout their ownership. Since introducing the Polestar 2 in 2020, the Swedish brand has delivered over 30 OTA software updates across its lineup, further reinforcing its leadership in software-defined vehicles.

Enhanced Features Through OTA Updates
The latest OTA update introduces new features such as walk-away locking and digital key functionality for compatible devices. This digital key allows Polestar owners to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using their smartphones, eliminating the need for a physical key. Notably, the digital key functionality is cross-platform compatible, providing a seamless experience for users across different operating systems.
Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, stated, “With our over-the-air updates, we continue to make our cars better over time. Our customers requested digital key functionality, and we delivered. We remain committed to adding value to our customers’ vehicles throughout their lifespan.”
Beyond new applications and software enhancements, OTA updates for the Polestar 3 can also optimize driving attributes and active safety systems. The vehicle’s centralized core computing system allows for comprehensive updates, ensuring continuous improvements to performance and safety.
Complimentary NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin Processor Upgrade
Looking ahead to model year 2026, Polestar will upgrade the Polestar 3’s existing NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Xavier processor to the more advanced NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin processor. This enhancement will significantly boost the vehicle’s computing power, optimizing its software-defined capabilities.
In a customer-centric move, Polestar will offer this hardware upgrade as a complimentary service to all existing Polestar 3 owners. This upgrade aligns with the brand’s philosophy of providing long-term value to its customers.
Lohscheller further emphasized, “Polestar 3, the first software-defined vehicle from Europe, is getting even smarter. Upgrading the hardware of our cars when new technologies emerge showcases our dedication to delivering the best ownership experience. With the Orin processor, the already impressive Polestar 3 reaches new heights.”
Existing Polestar 3 owners will receive notifications when the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor upgrade becomes available, and installations will be conducted at authorized Polestar service centers.
Expanding In-Car App Experience
In another technological leap, Polestar is among the first brands, alongside Volvo, to launch Google’s Car Ready Mobile Apps program. This initiative streamlines the integration of large-screen optimized mobile applications into vehicle infotainment systems. As part of this rollout, Polestar drivers will gain access to new apps, including Farm Heroes Saga and F1 TV, via the Google Play Store. These apps are currently live on Polestar 2, with Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 set to follow later this year.
With a strong focus on continual innovation, Polestar remains at the forefront of automotive technology, ensuring that its vehicles not only keep pace with industry advancements but actively push the boundaries of software-defined mobility.
