Bangalore: In a poignant tribute to one of India’s most distinguished industrial pioneers, the Government of Karnataka has posthumously conferred the ‘Industrial Legacy’ Award upon Late Vikram S. Kirloskar, former Vice Chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM). The recognition, presented at the prestigious Invest Karnataka 2025 Global Investors Meet (GIM), acknowledges Kirloskar’s transformative contributions to the state’s industrial development and his lasting impact on India’s manufacturing landscape.

Late Kirloskar, an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), played a pivotal role in bringing Toyota to Karnataka and establishing TKM in Bidadi. Under his leadership, TKM emerged as a cornerstone of India’s automobile industry, distinguished for its technological innovation, green mobility initiatives, and robust skilling programs. His vision helped shape Karnataka into a globally recognized manufacturing hub, fostering economic growth while emphasizing environmental sustainability and community upliftment.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor was also celebrated at the event, receiving the ‘Sunrise Sector Pioneer Award’ for its leadership in automotive innovation and sustainability. The recognition affirms the enduring legacy of Late Kirloskar, whose efforts laid the foundation for TKM’s continued success and commitment to responsible industrialization.
Expressing her gratitude, Ms. Manasi N. Tata, Vice Chairperson of Toyota Kirloskar Motor and daughter of Late Kirloskar, said, “On behalf of my mother, Geetanjali Kirloskar, and the entire TKM family, we are deeply honored to receive this recognition. My father devoted his life to advancing manufacturing excellence and sustainability. This award is a testament to his vision and Karnataka’s remarkable industrial journey.”

Late Vikram S. Kirloskar’s legacy extends beyond industry. He was a champion of social progress, establishing the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) to empower rural youth with technical education and career opportunities. His contributions as former President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) further cemented his status as a visionary leader.
As Karnataka commemorates this industrial luminary, his vision of sustainable, inclusive, and technologically advanced manufacturing continues to inspire the state’s journey toward global industrial prominence.
