BMW Unveils Panoramic iDrive and Operating System X at CES 2025: Revolutionizing the Driving Experience

Munich/Las Vegas – At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, BMW introduced a groundbreaking step in automotive technology with the debut of its Panoramic iDrive system, powered by the innovative BMW Operating System X. This cutting-edge combination promises to redefine how drivers interact with their vehicles, offering an intuitive, personalized, and immersive user experience. The new technology will be rolled out across all BMW models starting late 2025.

A Visionary Leap: The Panoramic iDrive System
The Panoramic iDrive integrates four key elements designed to enhance driver focus and convenience:

  1. BMW Panoramic Vision: Spanning the entire width of the windshield, this innovative Head-Up Display projects critical information seamlessly into the driver’s line of sight while also being visible to passengers.
  2. BMW 3D Head-Up Display: Optional technology that combines navigation and driving data directly within the driver’s field of vision, creating a synchronized and immersive visual experience.
  3. Central Display: Positioned for ergonomic ease, this touch-responsive interface allows drivers to swipe information directly to the Panoramic Vision.
  4. Multifunction Steering Wheel: Equipped with haptic feedback and shy-tech illuminated buttons, this wheel ensures key controls are always at the driver’s fingertips.

Revolutionary Operating System X
At the heart of this innovation is BMW’s proprietary Operating System X, a robust and future-ready software platform built on the Android Open Source Project. It enables seamless updates, advanced personalizations, and integration of third-party apps like Zoom. Additionally, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, enhanced with Large Language Models, elevates voice interactions, enabling natural language commands for tasks like finding a charging station near a grocery store.

Personalized Driving Like Never Before
The Panoramic iDrive offers unparalleled personalization. Drivers can customize display content, choose driving attributes, and sync ambient lighting with their interface preferences. From projected maps to sound profiles, every aspect of the driving experience becomes uniquely tailored to the user.

Future-Ready Design for All Models
BMW plans to integrate the scalable Panoramic iDrive system across all future models, starting with its Neue Klasse series in late 2025. With a focus on blending analog and digital interactions, the system ensures both simplicity and sophistication.

“A New Benchmark in Automotive Innovation”
“High tech meets highly intuitive operation,” said Frank Weber, BMW AG’s Board Member for Development. “With the Panoramic iDrive and Operating System X, we’re setting a new benchmark in automotive interaction and making every journey a unique experience.”

BMW’s showcase at CES 2025 signals not just a technological leap but also a profound commitment to redefining the relationship between driver and vehicle, promising an exciting future for BMW enthusiasts worldwide.
