Tata Motors Powers Sustainability: Electric Bus Fleet Revolutionizes Workforce Transport in Pantnagar

Pantnagar: In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability and carbon neutrality, Tata Motors has rolled out a fleet of electric buses for workforce transportation at its Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand. This initiative, powered by Tata Motors’ subsidiary TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL), leverages state-of-the-art Tata Ultra 9m electric buses designed for zero emissions and maximum efficiency.

The eco-friendly fleet, which will serve over 5,000 employees, underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to green innovation. Supported by a 16MW solar energy plant, the buses’ operations are entirely powered by renewable energy, ensuring a seamless transition to a sustainable transportation model.

Sustainability Milestone
The initiative is poised to make a substantial environmental impact, with projected annual savings of approximately 1,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions. These efforts align with Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles’ broader vision of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2045.

Announcing the launch, Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head of Operations for Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “This deployment is a critical stride towards our sustainability goals. Pantnagar has always been a hub for innovation and green initiatives, and the addition of this zero-emission e-fleet further enhances the plant’s sustainability credentials. From being certified as Zero Waste to Landfill to becoming water-positive, Pantnagar continues to lead our journey toward environmental stewardship,” he remarked.

Smart Mobility for the Future
The Tata Ultra EV 9m electric buses feature cutting-edge technology, including a regenerative braking system and Intelligent Transport Systems, ensuring a comfortable and efficient commute. This initiative builds on Tata Motors’ proven success in India’s electric mass mobility space, where over 3,100 electric buses have collectively clocked 24 crore kilometers across 10 cities, boasting an impressive uptime of over 95%.

Tata Motors’ initiative is not only a step toward its carbon-neutral goals but also a beacon of innovation in India’s green mobility landscape, setting a precedent for sustainable industrial practices nationwide.
