Hyundai Motor India Foundation Expands Healthcare Initiative to Remote Himalayan Regions
New Delhi | September 16, 2024 – Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) has extended its healthcare reach to some of India’s most remote and elevated terrains with the launch of 10 Telemedicine Centres and 4 Mobile Medical Units across four states and two union territories. Under its “Sparsh Sanjeevani” initiative, the program aims to provide essential healthcare services to communities living in some of the harshest and most inaccessible parts of the country.
In an event held at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, inaugurated the Telemedicine Centres and flagged off the Mobile Medical Units. These units will operate in regions such as Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, and Punjab, delivering critical medical care to rural populations.
The newly opened Telemedicine Centres are located in challenging terrains such as Bhalla and Doda in Jammu & Kashmir, Kargil, Drass, and Kharu in Ladakh, and Chamba and Solan districts in Himachal Pradesh. The Mobile Medical Units will serve patients in Panipat (Haryana), Narmada (Gujarat), Moga (Punjab), and Baramulla (Jammu & Kashmir), ensuring people living in these regions can access primary healthcare without the need for long-distance travel.
With these latest additions, HMIF now operates 50 Telemedicine Centres and 10 Mobile Medical Units across India, serving over 1.3 million rural residents.
Puneet Anand, Vertical Head of Corporate Communication & Social at Hyundai Motor India Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare in the most remote parts of India: “In line with Hyundai’s global vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ the Sparsh Sanjeevani program is focused on enhancing the lives of underserved communities. These new Telemedicine Centres, coupled with our specially designed Mobile Medical Units, will help break down barriers to healthcare in some of the world’s most difficult-to-reach areas.”
The Telemedicine Centres connect patients to specialist doctors via video consultations, with nurse assistance on-site to facilitate the process. Meanwhile, the Mobile Medical Units are equipped with the latest diagnostic tools and staffed by qualified doctors who offer free consultations and medications. Both services are designed to bring medical expertise and essential treatments to the doorsteps of those in need.
Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform healthcare accessibility in rural India: “Hyundai Motor India Foundation’s initiative is a monumental step in ensuring that healthcare is no longer a luxury for those living in remote areas. These Telemedicine Centres and Mobile Medical Units will bridge the gap between urban medical services and rural populations, making a significant difference to countless lives.”
The Sparsh Sanjeevani initiative is seen as a significant advancement in tackling healthcare challenges in remote areas, where access to doctors and medical facilities is often limited. By leveraging modern technology and mobile healthcare solutions, Hyundai is making strides toward closing this healthcare gap and improving the well-being of millions across India’s diverse and challenging landscapes.
