Volvo’s Electric Revolution Begins: First EX90 SUVs Hit the Roads This Month

The highly anticipated, all-electric Volvo EX90 is officially on the road, marking a major milestone for Volvo Cars. The first wave of this flagship electric SUV is being shipped to retailers across the United States and Europe, with early customers set to receive their vehicles by the end of the month. Volvo plans to ramp up production and expand deliveries to additional markets throughout late 2024 and early 2025.

As Volvo’s new crown jewel, the EX90 raises the bar for safety, sustainability, and technology. According to Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan, the EX90 delivers an unmatched driving experience. Rowan, who recently completed a 950-kilometer test drive across three U.S. states, praised the vehicle for its comfort, quiet cabin, advanced technology, and powerful sound system.

“The EX90 is the best car we’ve ever made,” said Rowan. “It’s the beginning of a new chapter for Volvo Cars.”

Setting New Standards in Technology and Safety

The EX90 isn’t just a new SUV—it represents a technological leap forward for Volvo. Powered by an advanced core system built on the NVIDIA Drive platform and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit, the EX90 delivers a seamless, responsive driving experience. With AI-driven safety features and real-time updates via a 5G connection, this smart car is designed to improve over time with regular software updates.

This next-generation SUV is packed with cutting-edge features, including a lidar system provided by Luminar, designed to elevate safety and driving assistance capabilities. The EX90 is Volvo’s first vehicle to offer bi-directional charging, which can contribute to balancing energy grids and promoting renewable energy use.

A New Era for Volvo Begins in South Carolina

Production of the EX90 began earlier this year at Volvo’s state-of-the-art plant near Charleston, South Carolina, which has been upgraded to support battery pack production and other advanced manufacturing needs. With the capacity to build up to 150,000 units annually, the facility plays a key role in Volvo’s transition to an all-electric future.

As the first deliveries of the EX90 roll out this month, Volvo is making a clear statement: the electric era has arrived, and the EX90 is leading the charge.
