Mladá Boleslav, August 28, 2024 – Škoda Auto has raised the bar once again with the launch of its all-new Superb, a flagship model that blends enhanced space, cutting-edge technology, and top-tier safety features. This new generation marks a significant evolution in design, powertrain variety, and driver assistance systems, positioning the Superb as a leader in its segment.
A Sleeker, Smarter Design
The new Škoda Superb makes a bold statement with its refined octagonal grille and advanced LED Matrix beam headlights, now featuring Škoda’s Crystallinium design elements. This redesign is not just about looks; the improved aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient reduced by 15%, also contribute to greater efficiency. The Hatch version boasts a drag coefficient of 0.23, while the Combi estate, now the most aerodynamic Škoda estate ever, achieves a 0.25 drag coefficient.
Inside, the Superb offers a spacious and sustainable environment. The cabin has been meticulously crafted with clean lines and high-quality materials, many of which are recycled. The interior is dominated by a new 13-inch free-standing infotainment display, a first for the Superb, along with the innovative Škoda Smart Dials for intuitive control. The vehicle also features the AI-based chatbot ChatGPT, enhancing the already capable voice assistant, Laura, to offer an even more seamless user experience.
Expanding Powertrain Options and Efficiency
Škoda’s new Superb caters to a wide range of drivers with six powertrain options, including a groundbreaking mild-hybrid and a second-generation plug-in hybrid. The mild-hybrid 1.5 TSI engine and the plug-in hybrid with up to 120 kilometers of all-electric range represent the brand’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency. These innovations are complemented by traditional petrol and diesel engines, offering power outputs from 150 hp to 265 hp, with all-wheel drive available on the top variants.
The plug-in hybrid, currently available for the Combi estate, will soon be an option for the Hatch model as well. This next-generation hybrid not only extends the electric driving range but also introduces DC fast charging, making it a practical choice for those seeking a balance between performance and eco-conscious driving.
Safety and Assistance Systems: A New Benchmark
Safety is a standout feature of the new Superb, with Škoda introducing a host of advanced driver assistance systems. New nano radar sensors and expanded rear radar capabilities significantly enhance the vehicle’s ability to monitor and react to its surroundings. The inclusion of Turn Assist, Crossroad Assist, and Collision Avoidance Assist as standard features in the EU underscores Škoda’s commitment to driver and passenger safety.
Parking and maneuvering have also been made easier with Intelligent Park Assist, Remote Park Assist, and Trailer Assist, all available as optional features. Inside the cabin, up to ten airbags and the new Attention and Drowsiness Assist work to protect occupants in any situation.
Production and Market Impact
The all-new Superb is being produced at the Volkswagen Group’s Bratislava plant, a strategic move under the Beta+ project designed to optimize production efficiency across the group. With over 1.6 million units delivered since its introduction in 2001, the Superb has become a cornerstone of Škoda’s lineup. The new generation is set to continue this legacy, offering enhanced space, improved powertrains, and a suite of innovative technologies that meet the demands of modern drivers.
Škoda’s new Superb is not just an upgrade; it’s a complete reimagining of what a flagship model can be, combining luxury, practicality, and forward-thinking technology into a single, compelling package.
