Toyota India Drives Clean Water Access in Ramanagara: 21,000 Villagers Benefit from New Purification Units

Ramanagara, August 20, 2024 – In a significant boost to public health in the Ramanagara District, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has rolled out three state-of-the-art water purification units in Benne Halli, Kodiyala Karenahalli, and Chennemaregowdanadoddi. These installations, powered by renewable energy, are set to provide clean drinking water to approximately 21,000 residents across 15 villages, addressing a critical need in the region.

Each of the newly installed units features a robust six-stage filtration system, including Activated Carbon Filters, Reverse Osmosis (RO), and UV filtration, with the capacity to purify 1,000 liters of water per hour. These units not only guarantee safe drinking water but also align with sustainability goals by operating on solar power. Maintenance of the units will be overseen by local Grama Panchayats and a designated agency, ensuring their functionality for at least 15 years.

This initiative is a part of TKM’s larger corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment, which has seen the company install 51 water purification units across India, benefitting over 350,000 people in 312 villages. The company’s focus on enhancing the quality of life for local communities is evident in its comprehensive CSR strategy, which spans education, environment, health, hygiene, road safety, and skill development.

Sudeep Dalvi, Senior Vice President and Chief Communication Officer at TKM, emphasized the company’s dedication to community welfare, stating, “Our commitment goes beyond vehicle manufacturing; it is about creating lasting, positive impacts on the lives of people. Access to clean water is a fundamental right, and these new units in Ramanagara reflect our ongoing efforts to meet this critical need sustainably.”

Since 2001, TKM has embedded CSR into its operational ethos, impacting over 2.3 million people across various initiatives. In the last fiscal year alone, the company’s projects, including health and hygiene programs in schools, have reached over 64,000 individuals, further demonstrating its commitment to sustainable and scalable community development.

With the installation of these water purification units, TKM reaffirms its role as a key player in enhancing the well-being of communities, ensuring that access to clean water becomes a reality for thousands more.
