Suzuki Motor Corporation Commits to Energy-Efficient Innovations
Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced a comprehensive 10-year technology strategy focused on minimizing energy consumption throughout the vehicle lifecycle, from manufacturing to recycling. The company’s vision aims to achieve carbon neutrality while continuing to provide the joy of transportation worldwide.
Lightweight and Safe Vehicles
Suzuki’s specialty in creating compact and lightweight vehicles plays a crucial role in reducing CO2 emissions both during production and usage. By advancing their lightweight and safety body technology, known as “HEARTECT,” Suzuki plans to further decrease resource use and CO2 emissions. This technology will be continuously refined to minimize energy consumption through weight reduction.
Efficient Battery Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Suzuki is dedicated to developing the most energy-efficient electric vehicles tailored to the renewable energy ratios and usage conditions of different regions. The company’s approach, based on the principle of “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi” (small, light, short, and beautiful), will integrate compact and efficient electric units with lightweight batteries to minimize energy consumption.
Advanced Internal Combustion Engines and Carbon Neutral Fuels
In 2023, Suzuki introduced the high-efficiency Z12E engine, which boasts a maximum thermal efficiency of 40%. Moving forward, Suzuki will expand this technology globally and focus on reducing energy consumption through the use of carbon-neutral fuels and next-generation hybrid systems.
Software Defined Vehicles (SDV)
Suzuki is also venturing into the development of Software Defined Vehicles (SDV) with the “SDV right” initiative. This system aims to offer an affordable solution that enhances vehicle value by reducing energy consumption. The SDV right will facilitate easier software updates through a combination of wired and wireless (OTA) methods, and it will emphasize cost reduction by sharing hardware and reusing software.
Circular Economy and Sustainable Design
Suzuki is committed to transitioning from the traditional linear economy, which depletes resources and harms the environment, to a circular economy. This approach will focus on designing products that are easy to disassemble, recycle, and reuse, thereby significantly reducing total resource consumption and minimizing energy use.
With this forward-looking strategy, Suzuki Motor Corporation is poised to lead the automotive industry towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
