BMW Unveils New Models and Celebrates Racing Heritage at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024

BMW M5 Debuts in Thrilling Hill Climb Race, Joined by Iconic Models and Concept Vehicles

Munich/Goodwood – BMW is set to captivate automotive enthusiasts at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 with a dynamic display of new models, iconic racing machines, and groundbreaking concept vehicles. The highlight of the event will be the world premiere of the new BMW M5, which will showcase its prowess in the legendary hill climb race.

The seventh-generation BMW M5 (energy consumption weighted, combined: 1.7 – 1.6 l/100 km; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 39 – 37 g/km) promises a blend of performance and efficiency with its M HYBRID system. This innovative setup combines a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an advanced electric motor, delivering a formidable 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. The new M5 is poised to deliver a mesmerizing performance on the 1.86-kilometer (1.16-mile) hill climb course.

The Goodwood Festival will also witness the first public reveal of the BMW X3 M50 xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 189 – 175 g/km), showcasing a powerful six-cylinder in-line petrol engine complemented by 48V mild hybrid technology. This model highlights BMW’s commitment to combining agility with innovative digital technology.

Celebrating Racing Heritage and Innovations

In addition to new models, BMW Group Classic will honor its storied racing history. The lineup includes the BMW V12 LMR, which won the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1999, driven by Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. The BMW 2002 TIK, driven by BMW Group Classic brand ambassador Prince Leopold of Bavaria, and the BMW 318i STW, piloted by legendary driver Johnny Cecotto, will also participate, rekindling memories of historic victories.

Historic racing bikes, including the BMW RS 54 and a replica of the BMW R 255/1, will be part of the motorcycle hill climb events. Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, will ride the BMW R20 concept, which features the new 2.0-liter Big Boxer engine.

Showcasing Concept Cars and Vision Vehicles

Beyond the racetrack, BMW’s trackside stand will display an array of concept cars and vision vehicles. Highlights include the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, offering a glimpse into the future of fully electric models, and the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA, featuring designs by South African artist Esther Mahlangu.

The BMW Concept Skytop, an open-top two-seater with design elements inspired by classic models like the BMW Z8 and BMW 503, will make its second public appearance. This concept car embodies the joy of luxury travel with a blend of aesthetic appeal and dynamic performance.

In honor of designer Marcello Gandini, BMW Group Classic will present the BMW Garmisch, a rebuilt concept car originally designed for Bertone, showcasing BMW’s commitment to preserving automotive heritage.
