Tata Motors Sets Benchmark with Punch.ev and Nexon.ev Receiving 5-Star Bharat-NCAP Safety Ratings

Bengaluru, July 4, 2024 — Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), a subsidiary of Tata Motors and a key player in India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution, has kicked off FY 25 on a high note. The company proudly announced that its SUVs, Punch.ev and Nexon.ev, have achieved the prestigious 5-star safety rating from Bharat-NCAP. Notably, the Punch.ev has garnered the highest safety rating for any Indian vehicle tested to date. With this achievement, all Tata.ev SUVs now boast 5-star certifications from Bharat-NCAP.

Tata Motors continues its legacy of producing safer vehicles for Indian roads. The Tata.ev lineup not only satisfies the needs of discerning customers but also excels in safety standards. These EVs offer features usually found in higher-end segments, providing exceptional value to Indian consumers. Additionally, all Tata.ev models come standard with ZConnect connected car technology across all variants.

The Punch.ev is the latest addition to the Tata.ev family, built on the Pure EV architecture—acti.ev. This versatile and multi-functional EV is elegantly designed as a classical SUV. It integrates advanced features such as Arcade.ev, an air purifier, end-to-end LED DRLs with welcome and goodbye functions, a frunk, sunroof, all-digital instrument cluster, and infotainment system. Safety is a priority, with six airbags, electronic stability program, ISOFIX, hill hold assist, roll-over mitigation, and iTPMS as standard features. Select variants also offer a 360-degree camera, blind spot view monitoring, SOS calling, electronic parking brake with auto hold, all four disc brakes, and hill descent control.

The Nexon.ev, a pioneer of India’s EV revolution, has sold over 68,000 units since its launch in 2020. It offers a digital driving experience with a 12-inch Harman infotainment screen and a 9-speaker JBL sound system. It also features end-to-end LED DRLs with welcome and goodbye functions, Arcade.ev—a unique infotainment app store, and luxury features like Vehicle to Vehicle charging and Vehicle to Load technology. Standard safety features include six airbags, electronic stability program with iVBAC, ISOFIX, hill hold assist, roll-over mitigation, iTPMS, and a rear parking camera. Select variants provide a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, SOS calling, electronic parking brake with auto hold, all four disc brakes, and hill descent control.

The Tiago.ev, India’s fastest-booked EV, has democratized electric mobility, while the 4-star GNCAP-rated Tigor.ev emphasizes luxury and comfort. These models offer features such as leatherette seats, automatic climate control, projector headlamps, cruise control, electric ORVMs with auto-fold, and rain-sensing wipers. Safety remains paramount with six airbags, ABS with EBD, headlamp leveling, corner stability control, seatbelt reminders, rear parking camera, and tire pressure monitoring system.

The Indian EV market is currently experiencing significant growth, consistently outperforming the overall passenger vehicle industry. In 2023, the EV segment grew by over 90%, compared to the 8% growth of the passenger vehicle industry. With a market share exceeding 74% in FY 24, Tata.ev saw a 48% year-on-year increase, driven by the launch of the new Punch.ev and the upgraded Nexon.ev. This growth is fueled by factors such as the ease of driving an EV, reducing range anxiety, and expanding charging infrastructure.
