The all-electric Ioniq 5 robotaxi, powered by AI-based autonomous driving technology developed by Motional, a leader in driverless technology, has demonstrated exceptional performance in a series of comprehensive driving tests conducted on public roads in Las Vegas. This achievement not only marks a significant milestone for Hyundai Motor’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’ but also highlights the potential of autonomous vehicles to provide safe and accessible mobility options for everyone, including those with physical impairments.
The campaign film features an emotional narrative centered around Pearl Outlaw, a visually impaired individual, and her aspirations for independent mobility. Through her story, the film illustrates the transformative impact of autonomous driving technology on the lives of people with mobility challenges.
Kandice Jones, a DMV Certified Driving Examiner with a quarter-century of experience, was tasked with evaluating the Ioniq 5 robotaxi. Applying the same rigorous standards used to test human drivers, Jones assessed the robotaxi’s performance in various driving scenarios, including speed control, lane changes, stopping accuracy, left turns, lane maintenance, and response to hazards. The robotaxi’s flawless performance throughout the test, navigating the bustling streets of the Las Vegas Strip and suburban areas with ease, is a testament to Hyundai’s achievements in autonomous driving technology.
