E-Mobility Gets a Turbo Boost: Heavy Industries Ministry and IIT Roorkee Join Forces in a High-Voltage Partnership

In a move electrifying the corridors of innovation and academia, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), have sparked a dynamic collaboration, aiming to supercharge India’s automotive and electric vehicle (EV) sectors. The alliance was sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that promises to accelerate the pace of e-mobility advancements and drive the nation towards an electrified future.

Under the luminous leadership of Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Heavy Industries, and with virtual blessings from Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, the MoU was signed amidst a gathering of senior officials from both the ministry and the state. This agreement aims to kickstart a new era of innovation by establishing a Centre of Excellence and an Industry Accelerator at IIT Roorkee, funded by a whopping ₹24.6645 Cr., a collaborative investment aimed at steering the country towards self-reliance in the e-mobility domain.

This initiative not only promises to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial pragmatism but also to empower a fleet of startups joining the race to revolutionize the electric vehicle landscape, under the guiding lights of IIT Roorkee’s innovation ecosystem and MHI’s visionary support.

Dr. Pandey highlighted the transformative potential of this partnership, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards integrating cutting-edge technologies within the manufacturing sector and beyond, thereby promoting the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. He underscored the importance of academia-industry collaboration in nurturing innovative solutions that could lead the charge in the global export markets.

Echoing this sentiment, Chief Minister Dhami expressed his enthusiasm for the projects approved under the Capital Goods Scheme, anticipating a bright future for the e-mobility sector in Uttarakhand, courtesy of IIT Roorkee’s commitment to innovation and partnership with industry leaders.

Adding horsepower to this venture is ICAT, Manesar, a premier automotive testing and certification authority, gearing up to provide critical support in the development and validation of futuristic automotive technologies.

In a nutshell, this electrifying partnership between MHI and IIT Roorkee, underpinned by a shared vision of innovation and self-reliance, is set to drive India into the fast lane of the global e-mobility race, marking a groundbreaking chapter in the nation’s journey towards an electrified and sustainable future.
