Ford’s Middle Eastern Adventure: Ravi Ravichandran Rides in as New President

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, January 22, 2024 – In a bold move signaling an electrifying future, Ford Middle East has appointed industry stalwart Ravi Ravichandran as its new President. The announcement comes as the automaker gears up for a groundbreaking 2025, promising the launch of its electric vehicles in the region and the opening of a major parts distribution center in Dubai.

Ravichandran, a Ford veteran with over two decades of experience, ascends to the presidency after a successful tenure as Executive Director – Middle East Operations for Ford International Markets Group (IMG). His leadership saw significant growth and profitability for the Ford and Lincoln brands across the Middle East, making him an ideal fit for steering the company’s ambitious regional plans.

With a rich history in the automotive sector, Ravichandran’s journey with Ford began in 1997. His impressive career path has taken him through various roles in marketing, sales, strategy, finance, and manufacturing operations across India, China, and the Middle East and Africa markets.

Ravichandran expressed optimism about the Middle Eastern automotive industry, noting its expected steady growth in 2024. This growth, he said, is driven by consumer demand, easing supply disruptions, regional economic growth, and government initiatives, particularly in Saudi Arabia.

Ford Middle East is building on a triumphant 2023, which saw a remarkable 70% year-on-year sales increase. Under Ravichandran’s leadership, the company aims to elevate its status as one of the region’s most coveted automotive brands.

Joining Ravichandran in Ford Middle East’s leadership shuffle are Sami Malkawi and Pedro Simões, both promoted to more senior roles. Malkawi, with seven years at Lincoln Middle East and experience as Managing Director, steps up as Ford and Lincoln Managing Director, Sales Operations in the Middle East. Simões, previously Marketing Director, expands his role as Director of Ford and Lincoln Marketing, Commercial Vehicles, and Fleet.

Malkawi plans to extend Ford and Lincoln’s market reach, while Simões will focus on maintaining brand growth and introducing more electrified products to meet customer demand.

Looking ahead, Ford Middle East’s leadership changes pave the way for an exhilarating future, continuing the successes of 2023 and navigating new opportunities in the dynamic Middle Eastern automotive scene.

The upcoming DB Schenker – Ford Parts Distribution Center (PDC) in Dubai Logistics District, part of Dubai World Central, marks another milestone. Set to open in January 2025, this 41,792-sq-m facility promises improved parts availability, optimized inventory management, and enhanced customer service, further solidifying Ford’s commitment to the Middle East.
