Madrid Races into the Future: Formula 1’s New Spanish Home from 2026!

In a move that’s revving up excitement, Formula 1 has announced a thrilling new chapter in its history: starting in 2026, Madrid will host the Spanish Grand Prix, transforming the city into a high-octane paradise for racing fans. This decade-long deal promises to bring the roar of engines and the thrill of speed to the heart of Spain’s vibrant capital.

Get ready for a blend of urban flair and racing thrills as Madrid prepares to unveil a spanking new circuit. Designed around the renowned IFEMA exhibition centre, this 5.47km race track is a dream come true for speed enthusiasts. With 20 corners and a rip-roaring qualifying lap time of just 1 minute and 32 seconds, it’s set to become a crown jewel in the F1 calendar.

The Madrid Grand Prix is not just about fast cars; it’s a mega event with the capacity to host over 110,000 fans daily. This number is expected to zoom up to 140,000, making Madrid’s circuit one of the largest F1 spectacles on earth.

Convenience is key, as the venue is just a stone’s throw away from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez airport. An estimated 90% of fans will be able to arrive via public transport, making it one of the most accessible races in F1 history.

In line with Formula 1’s commitment to a greener future, this event is geared up to be an eco-friendly extravaganza. IFEMA Madrid is on board with this vision, already utilizing 100% renewable energy and planning to use recyclable materials for race structures.

The proposal to bring F1 to Madrid has seen a green light from various government levels and key stakeholders, signaling a strong collaborative effort. Beyond the race, Madrid plans to engage the entire community, from local businesses to schools, ensuring the event leaves a lasting positive impact on the city.

Stefano Domenicali, the President and CEO of Formula 1, couldn’t hide his excitement: “Madrid is an incredible city, and we’re thrilled to start this new F1 chapter in Spain. It’s a multi-day spectacle that embraces innovation and sustainability.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, highlighted the importance of this development in the context of Formula 1’s environmental goals and the excitement of racing in Spain’s capital.

Jose Vicente de los Mozos, President of IFEMA MADRID, shared his dream of hosting a major F1 event, while Isabel Diaz Ayuso, President of the Madrid Region, emphasized the economic and employment benefits the event will bring.

Finally, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, shared his vision of the city moving into the future and joining the elite group of F1 host cities. “It’s more than a race; it’s an opportunity for Madrid to show its transformation to the world,” he said.

In sum, the announcement has shifted Madrid into high gear, ready to host an event that’s much more than just a race – it’s a celebration of speed, innovation, and the vibrant spirit of one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. Gentlemen, start your engines, and welcome to Madrid, the new home of the Spanish Grand Prix! 🏁🏎️💨
