Audi sold 1.9 million cars in 2023, Indian market marks 90% growth

In a remarkable achievement, Audi AG has announced a robust performance for the year 2023, delivering approximately 1.9 million vehicles globally. This milestone is underscored by a significant surge in the sales of fully electric vehicles, which saw an increase of 51 percent from the previous year, totaling around 178,000 units.

Under the leadership of CEO Gernot Döllner, Audi is entering 2024 from a position of strength, despite acknowledging the upcoming year as a period of challenges. Döllner emphasized the brand’s robust foundation and its unwavering focus on electrification and sustainable mobility solutions. The impending launch of the Audi Q6 e-tron at the end of the first quarter of 2024, marking the debut of the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), is poised to be a significant step in Audi’s electrification journey.

Hildegard Wortmann, Audi’s Board Member for Sales and Marketing, highlighted the company’s exceptional performance in core markets such as Europe, the USA, and China. The growth in these regions has outpaced the overall market, with Audi’s electric models, especially the Audi Q4 e-tron, witnessing a remarkable demand.

In addition to its electric range, Audi has continued to see strong sales across its traditional models. The Audi Q5, A6, and A4 remained highly popular, with sales figures of 332,000, 267,000, and 237,000 units respectively. Audi Sport also reported a 5 percent increase in high-performance vehicle deliveries, totaling around 48,000 units worldwide.

Regionally, Audi has made significant strides. In Europe, the brand delivered approximately 748,000 vehicles, a 20 percent increase, with electric models showing the most substantial growth. In Germany, Audi’s deliveries rose by over 17 percent, with electric models contributing significantly to this growth. The USA, identified as a key growth market, saw an impressive 22 percent increase in deliveries, with electric models experiencing a 55 percent surge. In China, Audi’s deliveries exceeded 729,000 vehicles, marking a 13 percent increase over the previous year.

Globally, Audi experienced robust sales in various international markets, delivering approximately 190,000 vehicles in 2023, a notable increase of 19 percent from the previous year. Remarkable growth was observed in several countries, with Argentina leading the surge at a staggering 109 percent increase. This was closely followed by India, which saw an impressive 90 percent rise in Audi vehicle deliveries. Additionally, Mexico and Australia also recorded significant growth rates of 32 percent and 29 percent respectively, contributing to Audi’s overall global success.

The performance in 2023 reflects Audi’s successful implementation of its electrification strategy and its ability to adapt to the changing market dynamics. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Audi is well-positioned to face the challenges of 2024 and beyond, continuing its journey towards an electrified future.
