Bengaluru gets 100 Tata Starbus EVs, will improve quality of life

Bengaluru, December 27, 2023: In a major boost to eco-friendly public transportation, Tata Motors has delivered a fleet of advanced Starbus Electric Vehicles (EVs) to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). This initiative is part of a larger commitment by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Motors, to supply, operate, and maintain 921 cutting-edge 12-metre low-floor electric buses over a 12-year period.

The inauguration of Tata Motors’ smart electric bus was graced by several dignitaries including Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Shri Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister Shri DK Shivakumar, and others. Ms. G Sathyavathi, IAS, Managing Director, BMTC, expressed delight over the induction of these buses, noting their alignment with BMTC’s goals of reducing carbon footprint and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.

Mr. Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, CEO and MD, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, emphasized the significance of these buses in promoting safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient public transportation in Bengaluru. The Tata Starbus EV boasts of superior design, comfort, and safety features, including electronic stability control, air suspension, and an Intelligent Transport System, reiterating Tata Motors’ commitment to cleaner and sustainable urban transport.

To date, Tata Motors has supplied over 1,500 electric buses across India, achieving over 10 crore kilometres of travel and maintaining an uptime of over 95%. These buses are a testament to the company’s leadership in providing eco-friendly transportation solutions and align with the national initiatives of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
