Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric wants to be a bestselling EV estate

In a significant advancement towards electrification, Opel has unveiled its latest offering in the electric vehicle (EV) market: the fully electric Astra Sports Tourer. This marks the model’s first foray into electric propulsion, positioning it among the pioneering electric estate cars available. The Astra Sports Tourer Electric boasts a WLTP-estimated range of up to 413 kilometers on a single charge, combining the practicality of an estate car with the benefits of electric mobility. Weighing approximately 1,760 kilograms, it promises an efficient and quiet driving experience.

The new Astra Sports Tourer Electric features a dynamic design, highlighted by the Opel Vizor brand fascia. It comes equipped with a range of electronic aids as standard and offers optional advanced features like the Intelli-Drive 2.0 system, which includes semi-automatic lane change assist and intelligent speed adaptation. Comfort is a key focus, with options like the AGR-certified ergonomic Active Sport seat available, and connectivity is enhanced through a fully digital cockpit with dual 10-inch displays and a state-of-the-art multimedia infotainment system.

Beyond its all-electric variant, the Astra Sports Tourer also presents multiple drivetrain options, including efficient combustion engines and plug-in hybrid models, with the top-of-the-line Astra Sports Tourer GSe also available.

The electric model’s motor delivers 115 kW/156 hp and 270 Newton meters of torque, offering immediate acceleration. It has a top speed of 170 km/h and features three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. The compact 54 kWh lithium-ion battery ensures a balance of range, efficiency, and quick charging capabilities, with an 80% charge achievable in about 30 minutes at a 100 kW DC fast charging station.

The Astra Sports Tourer Electric maintains its practicality with ample cargo space, enhanced by the battery’s underfloor placement, ensuring no compromise on interior space. Safety and comfort are enhanced through features like laminated windows and an extensive list of standard assistance systems.

The Astra Sports Tourer Electric GS variant brings additional refinement and technology, including the Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel Light for enhanced safety and the Snapdragon® Automotive Cockpit Platform for advanced infotainment capabilities. Opel’s move into the all-electric estate segment with the Astra Sports Tourer Electric signifies a notable shift in the brand’s strategy, embracing the future of electric mobility while maintaining the versatility and efficiency characteristic of estate cars.
