Renault Group has clarified that its Chennai manufacturing facility, which produces vehicles for both Renault and Nissan, has been fully owned by the French automaker since September 2025, seeking to correct continued references to the site as the “Nissan plant” or “Nissan factory”.
The company said such descriptions are no longer factually accurate following the change in ownership.
The Chennai facility is now a Renault-owned manufacturing plant, although it continues to produce vehicles for both Renault and Nissan for domestic as well as export markets.
Renault issued the clarification to ensure the facility is accurately identified in future communications, reports and media coverage.
The distinction may appear largely one of terminology, but in the automotive industry, where manufacturing partnerships and plant ownership structures often overlap, the badge on the factory gate can matter almost as much as the badge on the car.
Renault Group said the manufacturing site remains a key pillar of its operations in India and will support the company’s long-term plans covering growth, localisation and exports.
The Chennai facility therefore continues to serve both automakers from a production standpoint, even though its ownership now rests entirely with Renault Group.
As Renault strengthens its presence in India, the clarification underlines the evolving structure of its manufacturing operations while confirming that the Chennai plant will continue to play a role in supplying vehicles for both the domestic market and exports.
