In a significant step toward enhancing the skill set of students across India, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a nationwide internship program.
The agreement, formalized by Nitin Sharma, Executive Director of NHIDCL, and Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar, Chief Coordinating Officer of AICTE, paves the way for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students to gain hands-on industry experience.
Internship Portal Unveiled
As part of the initiative, Dr. Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of NHIDCL, launched an online portal dedicated to managing the internship program. This platform aims to connect students with practical learning opportunities, focusing on regions such as the North-East, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The portal was inaugurated during a collaborative event attended by key officials from both organizations, highlighting the importance of this initiative in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demands.
Five-Year Vision for Skilling Students
The MoU, set to span five years, clearly defines the roles of each organization. AICTE will provide technical support for the program’s digital infrastructure, while NHIDCL will handle operational and non-technical aspects.
This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to national goals, focusing on skill development and creating meaningful opportunities for students. By offering internships in critical infrastructure sectors, the program aligns with India’s larger vision of building a skilled and employable workforce.
A Leap Toward Industry-Academia Synergy
Speaking at the event, representatives from both NHIDCL and AICTE emphasized their mission to enhance employability through experiential learning. The program also aims to inspire students to contribute to India’s infrastructure development, particularly in underserved regions.
This strategic partnership is expected to impact thousands of students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the competitive job market while contributing to the nation’s growth.
