Mercedes-Benz EQS Gets Smarter and Longer-Legged with 926 km Range, AI Tech and Steer-by-Wire

Stuttgart: The future of luxury mobility just got a fresh software update—and a hardware upgrade to match. The new Mercedes-Benz EQS has officially been unveiled, and it arrives not just as an electric luxury saloon, but as a rolling supercomputer that can outthink traffic, outlast road trips, and perhaps even outsmart its driver (on a good day).

At the heart of this evolution is a staggering WLTP-certified range of up to 926 kilometres, making the EQS 450+ one of the longest-range electric cars in the world. In real-world terms, that’s the kind of distance where your playlist might run out before the battery does. And if you do need a quick top-up, the new 800-volt architecture enables ultra-fast charging at up to 350 kW, adding up to 320 km of range in just 10 minutes—roughly the time it takes to argue over what snacks to buy at a highway stop.

What truly sets the new EQS apart, however, is its leap into the world of intelligent mobility. With the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), the car transforms into a highly connected, AI-powered companion. This system integrates everything—from infotainment to driver assistance—into a unified digital ecosystem that evolves through over-the-air updates. In simple terms, your car won’t age; it will upgrade.

Adding to the technological theatre is the introduction of steer-by-wire, making Mercedes-Benz the first German manufacturer to bring this system into series production. By eliminating the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and front wheels, the EQS delivers a completely new steering feel—more precise, more adaptable, and free from unwanted road vibrations. It also opens up interior design possibilities, including a flatter steering wheel that enhances visibility and cabin space.

Underpinning these advancements is an all-new electric architecture featuring in-house developed drive units, a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, and larger batteries with improved energy density. The result is not just longer range, but better efficiency, stronger mid-range acceleration, and even a towing capacity that now rivals traditional combustion-powered luxury sedans.

Inside, the EQS continues to blur the line between car and lounge. The MBUX Hyperscreen, spanning over 55 inches, dominates the dashboard with a seamless glass surface integrating three displays. The system now features an AI-powered virtual assistant capable of handling complex conversations, while rear passengers enjoy dual 13.1-inch screens and a first-class entertainment setup. It’s less “back seat” and more “business class.”

Comfort remains a priority, with innovations like seatbelt heating—yes, that’s a thing now—providing warmth up to 44°C during cold weather. Meanwhile, the HEPA filtration system ensures that over 99.65% of particles are kept out of the cabin, making the EQS not just a luxury car, but a clean air sanctuary on wheels.

On the road, the EQS combines intelligence with elegance. AIRMATIC suspension with cloud-based damper control allows the car to anticipate speed bumps using Car-to-X communication, adjusting ride quality before the wheels even reach the obstacle. It’s the automotive equivalent of stepping carefully before you stub your toe—only much more sophisticated.

Design-wise, the EQS sharpens its already futuristic identity with an illuminated Mercedes-Benz star, star-pattern lighting signatures, and aerodynamic excellence, maintaining a drag coefficient as low as 0.20. The result is a السيارة that looks fast even when parked—and whispers through the air when in motion.

Beyond driving, the EQS also steps into the energy ecosystem. With vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home capabilities, it can supply power back to the grid or your house, turning the car into a mobile energy bank. In an era of rising energy awareness, that’s a feature that goes beyond luxury—it borders on practicality.

As Mercedes-Benz celebrates 140 years since Carl Benz filed the patent for the first automobile, the new EQS stands as a reminder that innovation is not just about moving forward—it’s about redefining what “forward” even means.

In the case of the EQS, it means going further, thinking smarter, and doing it all with the quiet confidence of a car that knows exactly what it’s capable of—even if you’re still figuring it out.
