Electric Freight Gets a Boost: Tata Motors Delivers Prima E.55S Fleet, Bags 250-Truck Mega Order from BillionE Mobility

Mumbai: In a decisive push toward cleaner highways and quieter cargo corridors, Tata Motors has rolled out the first batch of its all-electric heavy-duty trucks—Prima E.55S—to BillionE Mobility. And if that wasn’t enough voltage for the day, the deal comes with a bonus: an additional order of 250 electric prime movers, signaling that India’s freight sector is slowly but surely swapping diesel rumble for electric hum.

The newly delivered fleet will be deployed across key freight corridors spanning Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, and Haryana—essentially covering the country’s industrial backbone. From hauling steel to cement, these trucks are gearing up to prove that heavy-duty logistics can go green without losing its muscle.

The ceremonial handover saw senior leadership from both companies in attendance, including Tata Motors’ MD & CEO Girish Wagh and BillionE Mobility’s Founder Kartikey Hariyani, underlining the strategic importance of this collaboration. After all, when 450 kWh batteries start replacing fuel tanks, it’s not just a delivery—it’s a statement.

BillionE Mobility, which is clearly thinking big (and charging bigger), plans to scale up to 1,500 heavy-duty electric trucks over the next 6 to 18 months. According to Hariyani, the goal is simple: make electric freight not just viable, but reliable and scalable for real-world, long-haul operations. The Prima E.55S, with its class-leading 450 kWh battery pack, is expected to play a starring role in that transition.

From Tata Motors’ side, Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, emphasized that electric trucking isn’t just about swapping engines—it’s about engineering for real-world conditions. Built on Tata’s advanced i-MoEV architecture, the Prima E.55S features a high-performance e-axle, regenerative braking, dual charging ports, and a robust battery management system. In simpler terms, it’s designed to handle India’s demanding freight routes without breaking a sweat—or needing a fuel stop.

The truck offers a claimed range of up to 350 km on a single charge, along with features like a 3-speed auto-shift transmission, dual-gun fast charging, and a comprehensive safety suite that includes driver monitoring, lane departure warning, tyre pressure monitoring, cruise control, and electronic braking systems. There’s even optional ADAS—because even trucks deserve a bit of futuristic flair.

Inside, the premium Prima cabin ensures that drivers aren’t left out of the upgrade. Long-haul journeys get a boost in comfort and productivity, proving that sustainability doesn’t have to come at the cost of convenience.

This move is part of Tata Motors’ broader strategy to lead India’s transition to alternative fuel mobility. With a diverse portfolio spanning electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen ICE, and fuel cell technologies, the company is clearly hedging its bets across the energy spectrum. Backed by over 3,200 service touchpoints and its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 initiative, Tata aims to make sure that uptime remains high—even when emissions go low.

In a country where trucks are the lifeline of commerce, the arrival of electric prime movers like the Prima E.55S marks a significant shift. The roads may soon sound a little quieter—but make no mistake, the freight business is still moving full throttle.
