Because sometimes the most powerful engine is not under the bonnet, but inside a classroom.
Kancheepuram: Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited, has added another meaningful milestone to its social impact journey by inaugurating the Hyundai Center for Education Excellence at the Government Higher Secondary School in Thandalam village, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu. With an investment of ₹5.22 crore, the initiative aims to strengthen rural education infrastructure and create a modern learning ecosystem for nearly 1,000 students every year.
The newly constructed academic block was inaugurated by Thiru. T.M. Anbarasan, Hon’ble Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MS&ME), Government of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of key dignitaries including Gopalakrishnan C.S. and Saravanan T., Trustees of HMIF, K. Selvaperunthagai, MLA – Sriperumbudur, Dr. A. Nalini, Chief Educational Officer, Kancheepuram, and representatives from the Thandalam Panchayat and the school administration.
Spread across 15,750 square feet, the new facility features 16 modern classrooms and two fully equipped science laboratories, designed to promote experiential learning and hands-on education. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly enhance student engagement, improve attendance and create a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment for learning.
In simple terms, while Hyundai cars may accelerate from 0–100 km/h in a few seconds, this project is focused on accelerating something far more important — young minds and their aspirations.
Speaking at the inauguration, Gopalakrishnan C.S., Trustee, Hyundai Motor India Foundation, highlighted the long-term vision behind the initiative.
He said education remains the cornerstone of progress and emphasized that the new facility reflects Hyundai’s commitment to inclusive and community-centric development. According to him, empowering students from rural communities with quality infrastructure and learning opportunities will help build stronger and more resilient societies.
The project itself emerged from requests made by the Thandalam Village Panchayat and the School Management Committee, reflecting HMIF’s collaborative and need-based approach to community development. By listening to local stakeholders and investing where it matters most, Hyundai is ensuring that its CSR initiatives are both relevant and impactful.
For students in Thandalam and neighbouring villages, the new center means improved access to modern classrooms, practical science education and an environment that encourages curiosity and innovation. The addition of science laboratories will also help nurture scientific temper and interest in higher education, particularly in STEM fields.
Over the years, Hyundai Motor India Foundation has focused on initiatives that create sustainable social impact across education, healthcare, environment and community development. The new Center for Education Excellence reinforces the foundation’s mission of enabling equitable opportunities and empowering the next generation.
Because while Hyundai continues to build cars for the roads of India, projects like these ensure that India’s future drivers of progress are built inside classrooms.
