New Delhi: Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has kicked off the new year with a composed and confident performance, registering total sales of 6,941 units in January 2026. This includes 6,193 units in domestic sales and 748 units through exports, signalling a stable start to the calendar year for the Japanese automaker in the Indian market.
While the numbers may not set off fireworks, Honda seems to be playing the long game — less “January gym motivation” and more “New Year, sustainable momentum”.
Commenting on the performance, Kunal Behl, Vice President – Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., said:
“The year has begun on a strong note, supported by a healthy sales momentum. The Honda Amaze continues to bring in strong demand for its value-for-money offering along with the City and Elevate that contribute steadily to the overall business. We remain confident of sustaining this positive momentum in the coming months.”
A Look Back for Perspective
For context, Honda had recorded 7,325 domestic units and 4,979 export units in January 2025. The sharper dip in exports this year indicates HCIL is currently focusing more on strengthening its domestic footprint — a strategy that makes sense given the fiercely competitive and SUV-hungry Indian market.
The Honda Playbook for 2026
With Amaze anchoring the entry segment, City holding fort in the midsize sedan space, and Elevate tackling the compact SUV battlefield, Honda’s current lineup may be lean — but it’s strategically placed.
And while Honda’s portfolio isn’t the longest on the grid, it’s clearly betting on quality, brand loyalty, and consistent performers rather than flooding the market with every possible body style known to mankind.
