Mumbai: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has officially plugged into India’s electric future with the launch of the all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking the company’s first full-fledged entry into the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) space. After three decades of global electrification experience and millions of hybrids sold worldwide, Toyota has finally said, “Okay India, now it’s your turn.”
Based on Toyota’s global Urban SUV Concept, the Urban Cruiser Ebella represents the brand’s multi-pathway strategy in action—offering customers more choices while moving steadily towards carbon neutrality. In simple terms: Toyota wants you to go green, but without panic, range anxiety, or buyer’s remorse.

Two Batteries, One Big Promise
The Urban Cruiser Ebella comes with two battery options—49 kWh and 61 kWh, with the larger pack delivering 128 kW and 189 Nm of torque. Toyota claims a certified driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge, which means you can realistically drive from Delhi to Jaipur and still have enough juice left to look for good coffee.
Charging is equally stress-free, with support for AC home charging, DC fast charging (CCS2) and even portable charging cables. Smart charging features via Toyota’s i-Connect system allow owners to remotely monitor battery status, schedule charging, and pre-cool the cabin—because nobody likes entering a hot car, electric or not.
Looks Like the Future, Drives Like a Toyota
Design-wise, the Ebella adopts Toyota’s new “hammerhead” front styling, sharp LED lighting, a wide stance and 18-inch alloy wheels. The aerodynamic silhouette gives it a strong SUV presence without screaming “I am an EV,” which might actually be the biggest compliment.
Inside, the cabin feels more premium lounge than eco experiment. Highlights include ventilated front seats, panoramic roof, ambient lighting with 12 colour options, JBL sound system, sliding and reclining rear seats, and a dual-tone interior layout. The digital cockpit combines a 10.25-inch instrument cluster with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In short, it’s the kind of interior where even traffic jams feel slightly less traumatic.
Safety That’s Actually Reassuring
Toyota has equipped the Ebella with seven airbags, high-tensile body structure, 360-degree camera, and a full suite of Level 2 ADAS features, including automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Basically, the car watches the road so closely that you might start feeling emotionally supported.
Ownership Without EV Headaches
Where Toyota really flexes is in ownership experience. The Ebella comes with an 8-year battery warranty, Assured Buyback, Battery-as-a-Service, and access to 500+ BEV-enabled service touchpoints across India. With over 2,500 master technicians trained in electrified tech, Toyota promises 45-minute express maintenance—faster than most café orders.
Colours, Customisation and Booking
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is available in five monotone colours and four dual-tone combinations, with options like Enticing Silver, Café White, Sportin Red, Gaming Grey, Bluish Black and Land Breeze Green. Customers can further personalise the SUV with accessories and exterior detailing packages.
Bookings open from January 20, 2026, with prices to be announced soon.
Toyota’s EV Moment Has Arrived
Speaking at the launch, Toyota leadership highlighted that globally, over 38 million electrified vehicles have already helped save 197 million tonnes of CO₂—and now India officially joins that mission with the Ebella.
With its long range, premium features, serious safety tech and Toyota-level reliability, the Urban Cruiser Ebella isn’t trying to be a flashy tech toy. Instead, it aims to be something far more dangerous for competitors: a sensible, stress-free electric SUV that actually makes practical sense.
And in the Indian EV market, that might just be the most disruptive feature of all.
