Nissan Bets Big on Big Families: 7-Seater Gravite Teased Ahead of 2026 India Comeback

Gurugram: Nissan is clearly done warming up on the sidelines. The Japanese carmaker has officially teased its all-new seven-seater B-MPV for India, and it comes with a name that sounds as solid as its intent — Gravite. Scheduled for a grand debut in early 2026, the Gravite marks the first major step in Nissan Motor India’s long-planned resurgence story.

Positioned as a purpose-built family mover, the Gravite is designed for Indian households that believe one trip should ideally accommodate grandparents, kids, luggage, and at least one forgotten bag added at the last minute. Inspired by the needs of 1.4 billion Indians, this MPV promises versatility, modularity, and practicality — all while trying to look good doing it.

A New Chapter Begins

First announced in July 2024 as part of Nissan’s aggressive product offensive, the Gravite will kickstart a busy launch calendar. It will be followed by the Tekton SUV in mid-2026 and a seven-seater C-SUV in early 2027, signalling that Nissan is not just dipping its toes back into India — it’s planning a proper comeback tour.

Manufacturing will take place locally at Renault’s Chennai facility, reinforcing Nissan’s commitment to India not just as a market, but as a production and export hub. Local production also means the Gravite will be tuned for Indian roads, traffic conditions, and family expectations — including the unspoken rule that an MPV must survive wedding seasons.

What’s in a Name?

The name Gravite draws inspiration from “gravity,” symbolising balance, stability, and attraction. Nissan says the idea is to anchor families in comfort and convenience — essentially ensuring everyone stays grounded, even if the kids in the third row don’t.

Space, Modularity, and Family Logic

Inside, the Gravite is all about space done smartly. Nissan is promising class-leading cabin roominess, ultra-modular seating, and clever storage solutions that adapt easily between school runs and long highway trips. The focus is clearly on flexibility — because Indian families don’t travel light, and neither do their plans.

Global Design, Indian Attitude

On the outside, the Gravite carries Nissan’s global design DNA with its signature C-shaped front grille, delivering instant brand recognition and a confident road presence. The MPV also features distinctive hood branding and unique rear-door badging — a segment-first move aimed at giving the Gravite a stronger identity. The rear design continues the C-shaped interlock theme, ensuring it looks unmistakably Nissan from every angle.

Leadership Speaks

Massimiliano Messina, Chairperson, Nissan AMIEO, said India remains a key pillar in Nissan’s global strategy, adding that the Gravite reflects the company’s renewed momentum and confidence. Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, echoed the sentiment, calling the Gravite a pivotal product in Nissan’s transformation journey and one designed deeply around Indian aspirations.

Beyond the Gravite

Supporting this renewed push, Nissan is expanding its dealer network across Tier I and Tier II cities to improve accessibility and customer experience. Meanwhile, the Nissan Magnite continues to shine globally, now exported to 65 international markets, reinforcing India’s importance as a manufacturing hub.

Looking ahead, the recently revealed Tekton premium SUV adds further weight to Nissan’s multi-segment strategy — ensuring that the Gravite is not a one-off act, but part of a larger comeback playlist.

With the Gravite, Nissan isn’t just launching another MPV — it’s signalling that gravity is slowly pulling the brand back into serious contention in India. And this time, it seems firmly grounded.
