Goodwood: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has done the unthinkable… again. The brand known for silent cabins, starlit ceilings, and cars smoother than butter on hot parathas has now dived head-first into the neon-soaked, pixel-popping world of early arcade culture. Ladies, gentlemen, and joystick warriors — behold the Black Badge Ghost Gamer, a Bespoke masterpiece that looks like Pac-Man ate a Phantom and unlocked a secret level.
This one-off creation has been delivered to a tech entrepreneur who clearly lives by the philosophy: If nostalgia doesn’t glow, is it even nostalgia?

INSERT COIN TO BEGIN: WHERE 8-BIT MEETS V12 ENERGY
For the first time ever, Rolls-Royce designers immersed themselves in the late 70s–early 80s arcade universe — a time when pixels were big, graphics were small, and high scores meant everything. What emerged from this mission?
A ghost that refuses to stay silent — packed with Easter eggs, arcade motifs, and hidden references that turn every drive into a treasure hunt for grown-up gamers.
Joshua McCandless, the Bespoke mastermind behind this creation, summed it up perfectly: the car aims to recreate the thrill of pressing “START” for the very first time. Except here, the START button costs more than your house.
POWER-UP PAINTJOB: THE EXTERIOR THAT SAVES THE HIGH SCORE
Rolls-Royce went full arcade with a two-tone Salamanca Blue + Crystal-over-Diamond-Black theme. Think: neon arcade cabinet meets billionaire energy.
And then there’s the star of the show: the Cheeky Alien Coachline.
Hand-painted.
89 tiny 3mm x 3mm pixels.
Two different explosion colours on either side.
Basically, if Space Invaders had a luxury DLC, this would be it.
The Illuminated Pantheon Grille adds even more glow, while the black brake callipers and 22-inch forged wheels confirm that this Ghost didn’t come to play… well, except it did.
READY PLAYER ONE: THE INTERIOR WHERE THE GAME BEGINS
Inside, Rolls-Royce turns into a retro arcade — minus the crowds, tokens, and broken joysticks.
🎮 8-bit Player Assignments
- Front seats: Player 1 & Player 2
- Rear seats: Player 3 & Player 4
Finally, a car that acknowledges backseat gamers.
Each headrest carries a pixel-stitched Cheeky Alien, again crafted pixel by pixel. Rolls-Royce has officially made embroidery a boss-level activity.
🌙 The Waterfall: Lunar Battle Edition
Between the rear seats sits a full lunar battle scene featuring stainless-steel flying saucers and hand-painted cosmic chaos.
Technique used?
- Brushwork
- Sponging
- Airbrushing
Rolls-Royce basically turned the centre console into a miniature sci-fi movie.
Oh, and there are hidden Easter eggs everywhere — including a metal alien on the picnic tables and engraved motifs on the air vents. The Ghost Gamer is less of a car and more of a luxury escape room.
FINAL BOSS LEVEL: STARLIGHT HEADLINER + ILLUMINATED FASCIA
🛸 Pixel Blaster Starlight Headliner
80 fibre-optic battlecruisers arranged across the night sky.
Shooting stars reprogrammed into laser blasts.
Yes, Rolls-Royce turned ceiling lights into pew-pew space warfare.
💥 Laser Base Illuminated Fascia
A starfield reimagined as a retro game backdrop — complete with a gunship made of 85 individual stars.
It’s the first dashboard that could double as arcade wallpaper.
🔋 Illuminated Treadplates with Arcade Prompts
- PRESS START
- LOADING…
- LEVEL UP
- INSERT COIN
Except here, “Insert Coin” translates to “wire half a million dollars.”
GAME OVER? NEVER. THE GHOST GAMER IS A NEW COLLECTOR LEVEL
The Black Badge Ghost Gamer is not just a commissioned car — it’s a time capsule for the golden age of gaming, where 8-bit heroes ruled and every life was precious.
Rolls-Royce proves yet again that no idea is too bold, too niche, or too nerdy to be translated into Bespoke luxury… provided the client has the passion — and the wallet — to match.
One thing’s for sure:
Luxury just unlocked a new achievement.
