Mahindra Trucks & Buses Hit a Pothole in August, But Festive Horns Promise a Comeback

Mumbai – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Trucks & Buses division, now reinforced with SML Isuzu under its big corporate umbrella, found itself idling a bit in neutral last month. The company reported total sales, including exports, of 1,701 vehicles in August 2025 — a 9% dip compared to the same month last year. Not exactly the kind of horsepower you brag about at a truck stop.

The slowdown, as explained by Vinod Sahay, President – Aerospace, Defence, Trucks & Buses at M&M, wasn’t because the trucks lost their torque but because the industry itself was stuck in traffic. “The CV industry remained under pressure in August due to uncertainty surrounding proposed revisions in GST which impacted both dealer & retail sales. In addition, heavy rainfall & flooding in northern parts of the country also had a bearing on the demand,” he said, sounding more like a weatherman than a truck boss.

Still, Mahindra is keeping its high beams on the road ahead. With the festive season around the corner — a time when businesses and consumers alike are known to splurge — the company is hopeful that demand will rev up. After all, if there’s one thing Indian festivals guarantee besides laddoos and firecrackers, it’s a boost in vehicle bookings.

For now, Mahindra Trucks & Buses may have parked briefly on the shoulder, but with SML in its convoy and celebrations looming, it’s gearing up to honk loudly again in the coming months.
