Bengaluru Powers Up with 148 New Tata Starbus EVs – BMTC Now Runs on Bytes and Batteries!

Bengaluru – In a move that’s as electric as Bengaluru’s startup scene and twice as punctual, Tata Motors has officially begun the delivery of 148 cutting-edge Starbus EVs to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), adding to the city’s growing green fleet and giving diesel buses the quiet treatment—literally.

Already cruising the streets with 921 electric buses, BMTC is now setting a new high-voltage benchmark with this latest upgrade. Operated and maintained by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a Tata Motors subsidiary, the new fleet will serve under a 12-year contract that sounds more committed than most people on dating apps.

The shiny new zero-emission chariots were ceremoniously flagged off by Ramalinga Reddy, Hon’ble Transport Minister of Karnataka, and Ramachandran R., IAS, BMTC’s Managing Director—both visibly charged up about Bengaluru’s e-mobility mission.

Shri Ramachandran R. said, “Our current e-buses have performed like overachieving school kids—high uptime, great behaviour, and passengers love them. So we’re adding 148 more to the family.” He added that the new fleet will offer commuters a wider network of safe, silent, and smog-free rides.

Tata Motors’ Anand S, VP and Head of TML Smart City Mobility, remarked, “We’ve already clocked over 6 crore kilometres with BMTC’s fleet and maintained uptime that even Indian Railways would envy. These Starbus EVs don’t just run; they deliver a service as smooth as Bengaluru’s filter coffee.”

The Tata Starbus EV comes with a new-gen electric powertrain, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Brake Distribution, and enough tech acronyms to confuse even the most seasoned IT engineer. Add to that ergonomic seating for 35 passengers, a low-floor design, and no tailpipe emissions, and you’ve got a bus that’s smarter than your average smartphone—and much harder to lose in your couch cushions.

As Bengalureans continue to navigate their daily commute between traffic and tech parks, this fleet expansion promises cleaner air, quieter streets, and a glimpse into a future where buses hum instead of honk.

In the city that never stops buzzing—thanks to caffeine and code—Tata Motors and BMTC have just plugged in the next big leap in urban mobility.
