Tata Motors Hits a Minor Speed Bump in April 2025: Still Cruising, Just Not Overtaking

Mumbai – Tata Motors, one of India’s automotive heavyweights, has reported total sales of 72,753 units in April 2025. While the numbers show a dip from the 77,521 units sold in April 2024, the mood at Tata HQ is more “strategic slowdown” than “panic mode.”

In the passenger vehicle (PV) department, Tata rolled out 45,532 units, a 5% drop YoY. Meanwhile, the commercial vehicle (CV) division clocked in at 27,221 units, down 8% compared to the same period last year. As for the heavyweights—medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MH&ICV)—sales stood at 12,760 units globally, including domestic and exports. That’s a slight dip from last April’s 13,218 units, suggesting the trucks are still very much in gear, just coasting in eco-mode.

A company insider, possibly leaning against a showroom Nexon EV, might say: “We’re not downshifting—we’re just letting traffic clear ahead before we floor it again.”

Market watchers note that Tata’s product pipeline remains robust, and with newer EVs and facelifts in the wings, this lull might just be the calm before the next marketing monsoon.

After all, when Tata takes a breather, it’s usually just checking its mirrors before overtaking the competition again.
