A New Canvas for Sustainable Creativity
At the heart of this year’s fair is the acclaimed ‘The Future is Born of Art’ Commission, now in its fourth edition. This annual initiative, jointly spearheaded by BMW Group India and India Art Fair, champions emerging Indian artists by providing them with a global stage to articulate visions that intertwine ecological sensitivity with technological innovation.
This year, the commission has chosen the immersive installation project “Biolume” as its spotlight work. Artist-duo Non-Linear (Dennis Peter) and Cursorama (Yash Chandak), celebrated as two of India’s most promising artistic voices, have been entrusted with this ambitious commission. Their project, inspired by bioluminescent organisms, offers a 180-degree multimedia experience that blurs the boundaries between organic life and digital expression.
“Biolume is an invitation to witness the dialogue between human action and nature’s inherent glow,” explains Dennis Peter. “By merging generative design with biomimicry, we aim to create an environment where art catalyzes ecological and social change.”
The installation unfolds over three dynamic scenes:
- The Surface: An entrancing display of coastal waves intermingled with glowing organisms.
- The Depths: A realm of pulsating forms and evolving networks, mirroring the intricate life beneath the water’s surface.
- The Electric Abyss: A futuristic landscape that fuses organic forms with mechanical aesthetics, evoking a sense of otherworldly synthesis.
BMW Art Talk: From Introspection to Impact
Complementing the immersive experience of “Biolume,” the fair will host the BMW Art Talk – ‘From Introspection to Impact: Artists Shaping the World’ on February 7, 2025. This engaging session will feature influential contemporary artists including Shirazeh Houshiary, Bharti Kher, and Pushpamala N., with discussions moderated by Prof. Dr. Thomas Girst, Head of Cultural Engagement at BMW Group India.
The talk aims to delve into the introspective journeys of these artists as they interpret and respond to contemporary societal challenges. In a world often marked by division, their insights underscore art’s pivotal role in fostering understanding, bridging cultural divides, and inspiring collective action.
BMW Group India’s Vision for a Creative and Sustainable Future
Vikram Pawah, President and CEO of BMW Group India, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurturing the cultural and creative landscapes of India. “Our collaboration with the India Art Fair is a testament to our shared vision of a future where creativity and sustainability are interwoven. The ‘Future is Born of Art’ Commission reflects how ecological and technological innovation can converge to forge a more balanced and regenerative world,” he remarked.
A Landmark Edition for India Art Fair
This year’s edition of the India Art Fair promises to be the most expansive yet, introducing 26 new exhibitors and 11 renowned design studios from India and around the globe. As the fair continues to evolve as a premier platform for the discovery of art and culture, it reaffirms its role in bridging traditional art forms with modern creative expressions, all under the unifying themes of innovation and sustainability.
For art enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs, India Art Fair 2025 stands as a landmark event—a celebration of artistic diversity, technological integration, and the enduring spirit of creative exploration.
