Honda Cars India’s Record-Setting Export Boom and Promising Domestic Launches Drive Momentum into 2025
New Delhi – Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), a leading manufacturer of premium vehicles, has surged ahead with a remarkable 20% growth in total sales for calendar year 2024. Closing the year with a robust figure of 1,31,871 units sold, the company has showcased a strong balance between its domestic performance and a record-breaking export strategy.
Breaking down the numbers, domestic sales contributed 68,650 units, while exports reached an unprecedented 63,221 units, underscoring India’s emergence as a strategic manufacturing hub for Honda.
The December 2024 performance reinforced this upward trajectory, with 9,460 units sold—comprising 5,603 domestic units and 3,857 exports.
Driving Forces Behind Growth
The success story of CY’2024 can be attributed to the stellar performance of Honda’s mid-size SUV, the Honda Elevate, which played a pivotal role in bolstering export volumes. According to Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at HCIL, “2024 was a year of mixed challenges, especially in the domestic market. However, our exports reached their highest ever, establishing India as a vital node in Honda’s global operations.”
Adding to this momentum was the much-anticipated launch of the 3rd Gen Amaze in late 2024, which has already garnered a promising response. Behl expressed optimism for the coming year, stating, “With the Amaze’s strong reception and our unwavering focus on the Indian market, we are well-positioned to make 2025 even more successful.”
Comparative Analysis
When compared to CY’2023’s sales of 1,10,143 units, HCIL’s growth trajectory is evident. While domestic sales saw a slight dip from 84,289 units in 2023 to 68,650 units in 2024, the company’s export surge—from 25,854 units in 2023 to 63,221 units in 2024—highlighted its strategic pivot toward global markets.
