Hyundai India Accelerates EV Adoption: Plans 600 Fast Charging Stations Nationwide

Building India’s Electric Future with Strategic Infrastructure Development

Gurugram — Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is charging ahead with its commitment to sustainable mobility by announcing plans to install nearly 600 fast public EV charging stations across the country within the next seven years. The initiative aims to address the pressing need for reliable EV infrastructure and foster greater adoption of electric vehicles in India.

By the end of 2024, HMIL plans to establish a robust charging network with over 50 stations strategically located on key highways, within major cities, and at Hyundai dealerships. The effort underscores the company’s dedication to transforming India’s EV ecosystem by ensuring seamless long-distance travel for electric vehicle users.

Tackling Range Anxiety with Advanced Infrastructure

Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning, HMIL, emphasized the importance of this initiative:

“The EV market is expected to grow robustly by 2030. However, studies reveal that range anxiety and inadequate charging infrastructure hinder EV adoption. Our initiative to install fast chargers across highways and urban centers reflects Hyundai’s commitment to building a comprehensive and inclusive EV ecosystem in India.”

Leveraging Hyundai’s global expertise in EV and battery technology, HMIL’s network has already facilitated 50,000 charging sessions, delivering over 7.30 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 customers from Hyundai and other brands.

Tamil Nadu Partnership and Beyond

In collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, HMIL has committed to establishing 100 EV charging stations statewide by 2027. As part of this agreement, 10 stations will be operational by the end of 2024, with three already functional at prominent locations, including Spencer Plaza and BSR Mall in Chennai.

Comprehensive Charging Network via myHyundai App

To further enhance accessibility, HMIL’s myHyundai app integrates over 10,000 EV charging points in partnership with leading service providers like ChargeZone, Statiq, and Shell India. The app allows users to plan seamless journeys from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, ensuring convenience and peace of mind for EV owners nationwide.

Inclusive, Customer-Centric Approach

Hyundai’s charging stations cater to all electric four-wheelers manufactured in India, offering competitive tariffs and access to amenities like cafes and shopping areas. Trained marshals and 24×7 CCTV surveillance provide additional safety and support.

Strategic Locations and Cutting-Edge Technology

The charging stations are strategically positioned in major cities such as Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai, along with key highways like Delhi-Chandigarh and Mumbai-Pune. Equipped with advanced DC chargers (150 kW, 60 kW, and 30 kW configurations), the stations are designed to deliver rapid, reliable charging services.

Driving the Future of Electric Mobility

As of November 2024, HMIL has sold over 4,000 EV units, including the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai KONA, cementing its position as a leader in India’s EV market. With the ambitious rollout of fast charging infrastructure, Hyundai is not only addressing current challenges but also paving the way for a greener, more connected future.

Hyundai Motor India Limited’s initiative marks a significant leap toward achieving India’s EV ambitions, ensuring that clean energy mobility is not just a dream but a rapidly approaching reality.
