Suzuki Motor Corporation has taken a significant leap in the electric vehicle market with the reveal of its first-ever mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in Milan, Italy. Production is set to begin at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India by spring 2025, with a global rollout planned for summer 2025, reaching markets in Europe, India, and Japan.
Building on the groundwork laid by the eVX concept showcased in January 2023 at India’s Auto Expo and again at the Japan Mobility Show in October, the e Vitara represents Suzuki’s inaugural global BEV venture. This new model brings together Suzuki’s established engineering capabilities with innovative BEV technology.
e Vitara’s Main Features Redefine the SUV Experience
- High-Tech, Adventure-Inspired Design
With its design ethos of “High-Tech & Adventure,” the e Vitara balances the modern feel of a BEV with the rugged strength expected from an SUV. The exterior boasts a bold look, marked by large-diameter tires and a stretched wheelbase. Inside, an integrated display and durable-looking panels reinforce its adventurous theme, promising both style and functionality. - Powerful BEV Powertrain with Advanced Battery Technology
The e Vitara’s powertrain includes an efficient eAxle, integrating motor and inverter, alongside a lithium iron-phosphate battery system known for safety and reliability. This setup delivers Suzuki’s hallmark smooth acceleration, both from a standstill and during overtakes, offering a nimble and sharp driving experience. - AllGrip-e: Suzuki’s First Electric 4WD System
Drawing from Suzuki’s four-wheel-drive expertise, the e Vitara features the ALLGRIP-e electric 4WD system, with independent eAxles at the front and rear. The system ensures precise control, powerful off-road capabilities, and includes a Trail mode for enhanced traction on rough terrains. - HEARTECT-e Platform Built for EVs
The e Vitara sits on the newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, specifically designed for BEVs. This lightweight structure maximizes interior space and battery capacity, further supported by high-voltage protection.
President’s Vision for Carbon-Neutral Mobility
In a statement, Suzuki’s President highlighted the e Vitara as the company’s first step in its electric journey, developed through extensive trials to ensure a user-friendly experience. “The e Vitara represents a major milestone in our goal of carbon neutrality,” he said. “By offering a range of BEVs, hybrids, and CNG vehicles, we aim to meet the needs of diverse markets and advance toward a carbon-neutral future.”
As Suzuki prepares to bring the e Vitara to market, it signals the company’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation solutions and broadening its electric vehicle lineup for a global audience. This move underscores Suzuki’s strategic shift toward sustainable mobility tailored to regional needs, reflecting an innovative approach to future driving experiences.
