Government Highlights Achievements of FAME II, Announces Next Phase of EV Push at National Event

The Ministry of Heavy Industries hosted a landmark event, “FAME’s Success in Transforming India’s EV Landscape: From Vision to Reality,” at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event celebrated the achievements of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) initiative, highlighting its transformative impact on India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector. Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, along with key dignitaries, addressed a gathering of industry leaders and stakeholders, outlining the next steps in the country’s green mobility revolution.

FAME II: Paving the Way for Sustainable Mobility

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy emphasized FAME II’s role in positioning India as a global leader in electric mobility. “The visionary leadership of our Prime Minister has set us on the path to achieving net zero emissions by 2070. The FAME initiative exemplifies the government’s unwavering commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation,” the minister remarked.

Since its inception, FAME II has played a critical role in advancing cleaner, more efficient transportation options, aiding India’s transition to a greener, technology-driven, and economically robust future.

Key Milestones Under FAME II (2019–2024):

  • 14.32 lakh e-2 wheelers with ₹4,924 crore in support
  • 1.65 lakh e-3 wheelers with ₹1,116 crore allocated
  • 22,637 e-4 wheelers supported with ₹537 crore
  • 6,862 e-buses benefiting from ₹3,009 crore
  • Installation of 10,763 public charging stations, backed by ₹913 crore
  • A total of 4.29 crore litres of fuel saved and 1.2 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions reduced.

These statistics underscore India’s growing commitment to cleaner transportation options and its potential to lead the electric vehicle transformation on the global stage.

The Launch of PM E-Drive: A New Chapter

In a major announcement, the government unveiled the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-Drive) scheme. Designed to accelerate the adoption of EVs, the new scheme promises upfront incentives, coupled with a significant expansion of charging infrastructure across the country.

Kumaraswamy stated, “With the PM E-Drive Scheme, we are setting the stage for rapid EV adoption, improving air quality, and reducing the environmental footprint. Our aim is to develop a globally competitive, resilient EV manufacturing industry that benefits both the economy and the environment.”

Looking to the Future

Kamran Rizvi, Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the transformative role of FAME II in encouraging domestic value addition within the EV sector. “FAME II has pushed the boundaries of innovation and progress, but the work doesn’t stop here. As we move forward, we must focus on addressing climate change and fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of net zero emissions by 2070.”

As India embarks on this ambitious journey, the continued efforts of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the launch of PM E-Drive signal a future where eco-friendly mobility solutions will become the norm, reshaping the nation’s transport landscape for generations to come.
