Tata Motors and Tata Power Join Forces to Boost Electric Commercial Vehicle Charging Network

Mumbai – In a major step toward advancing India’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors, the nation’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer. The agreement aims to establish 200 fast-charging stations across metro cities—Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata—dedicated to electric commercial vehicles.

This partnership strengthens the long-standing collaboration between the two companies, emphasizing the development of sustainable mobility solutions. These fast-charging stations will primarily serve small electric commercial vehicles, making it easier and more cost-effective for businesses to adopt eco-friendly transportation.

Expanding Charging Access Nationwide

The initiative goes beyond just adding 200 fast-charging stations. Tata Power and Tata Motors have pledged to offer exclusive charging tariffs for Tata Motors’ electric commercial vehicle (CV) owners, lowering operating costs and boosting profitability. With plans to expand the network to 1,000 fast-charging stations nationwide, the collaboration aims to revolutionize the commercial EV landscape in India.

Voices from Leadership

“We’re excited to further strengthen our partnership with Tata Power in transforming the commercial EV ecosystem. Our shared goal is to make fast chargers accessible at convenient locations across India,” said Vinay Pathak, Vice President & Business Head – SCV&PU, Tata Motors. He emphasized that Tata Motors is not just focused on creating top-tier electric vehicles, but also on building the necessary infrastructure to support the widespread adoption of green technologies.

Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., highlighted the company’s extensive reach: “Tata Power already operates one of the largest EV charging networks in the country. Expanding into the commercial vehicle space is a natural next step in our mission to promote e-mobility. This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing reliable charging solutions across India.”

Building a Comprehensive EV Ecosystem

Tata Power has already established a robust charging network under the “EZ Charge” brand, boasting over 100,000 home chargers and more than 5,500 public, semi-public, and fleet charging points. Additionally, the company has set up 1,100+ bus charging stations in 530 cities and towns, positioning its network in high-traffic areas such as highways, malls, hotels, and office complexes.

On the vehicle side, Tata Motors continues to lead with its Ace EV, India’s most advanced electric small commercial vehicle. The Ace EV is supported by a network of over 150 service centers and is equipped with advanced technologies like a battery management system and the ‘Fleet Edge’ telematics platform, providing real-time insights into vehicle health and driver behavior.

This collaboration marks another significant step toward decarbonizing India’s transportation sector, making commercial EV adoption more accessible, profitable, and sustainable.
