CEAT Rolls Out High-Tech Truck Bus Radial Line at Chennai Plant, Turbocharging Global Expansion

Chennai, India – September 11, 2024: In a major step toward reinforcing its global presence, CEAT, one of India’s top tyre manufacturers, has officially launched its state-of-the-art Truck Bus Radial (TBR) production line at its Chennai plant. This new facility is set to gradually ramp up to a daily output of 1,500 tyres within the next 12 months, aligning with CEAT’s broader strategy to cater to international markets. The move is poised to enhance CEAT’s position in the global tyre sector, while supporting its current production of premium Passenger Car Radial (PCR) and Motorcycle Radial (MCR) tyres.

The TBR line represents a key piece in CEAT’s global puzzle, addressing the growing demand for high-performance tyres in both domestic and global markets, especially across Europe and the U.S. This strategic investment is coupled with CEAT’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and technological innovation, ensuring the brand remains at the forefront of the mobility solutions industry.

Arnab Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO of CEAT, highlighted the importance of the new TBR line, remarking, “Our new Truck Bus Radial facility at the export-centric Chennai plant is a significant leap in CEAT’s international growth journey. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, we’re not only bolstering our production capabilities but also ensuring safety and sustainability remain at the core of our operations. This investment underscores our mission to provide world-class mobility solutions across markets.”

Pioneering Manufacturing Excellence and Safety

Jayasankar Kurruppal, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing at CEAT, praised the technological advances and safety enhancements at the Chennai plant. “Our Chennai facility consistently raises the bar for operational excellence and employee safety. The new TBR line exemplifies our pursuit of creating a smart, secure manufacturing environment,” Kurruppal noted, highlighting that the project involved domestically developed equipment, which helped streamline both costs and timelines.

Situated in Sriperumbudur, spanning 160 acres, CEAT’s Chennai plant is now even more firmly positioned as a global manufacturing hub. With the integration of real-time data analytics, connected machinery, and advanced automation, the plant embodies a “smart factory” approach that prioritizes efficiency, quality, and safety.

Green Innovations and Global Impact

The Chennai plant isn’t just about manufacturing — it’s a trailblazer in sustainability. The facility features a 25% green cover and sources 40% of its energy from renewable sources, including a 5 MW solar rooftop installation. CEAT plans to further boost this to 50% renewable energy by 2025. Additionally, as a zero-liquid-discharge site, the plant ensures minimal environmental impact while maintaining cutting-edge production processes.

CEAT’s Chennai facility has earned prestigious accolades for its focus on safety, including the British Safety Council’s 5-Star Award and the Sword of Honour, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining industry-leading safety standards.

This latest development at the Chennai plant strengthens CEAT’s reputation as a key player in the global tyre market, and with the added boost from its TBR line, the company is poised to accelerate its global growth and meet rising demand for innovative and sustainable tyre solutions.
