Acura Unveils Bold Vision for Electric Future with Performance EV Concept at Monterey Car Week

Acura’s Next-Gen Electric SUV Showcased at Prestigious Car Events, Marks a New Era in Performance Design

Acura has taken a significant leap in its electrification journey with the global debut of its Performance EV Concept at the renowned Monterey Car Week. This dramatically styled SUV concept not only previews Acura’s future design direction but also hints at the brand’s next all-electric model. Developed by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, the Performance EV Concept is set to shape the future of Acura’s high-performance electric vehicles.

Scheduled to enter production in late 2025, this groundbreaking Acura model will be the first to utilize a newly engineered, Honda-developed EV platform. It will also be the inaugural vehicle to roll off the assembly line at Honda’s new EV Hub in Ohio, marking a pivotal moment for both brands.

“The Acura Performance EV Concept is a bold statement of our electrification strategy, showcasing the innovative design and exhilarating performance that will define our future electric lineup,” said Mike Langel, Assistant Vice President of Acura National Sales. “Following the launch of the all-electric 2024 Acura ZDX, this concept sets the stage for our next all-electric SUV, delivering an electrifying driving experience for our customers.”

The Performance EV Concept is more than just a vision; it’s a tangible example of Acura’s commitment to combining cutting-edge technology with breathtaking design. The concept features a vented hood extending from the A-pillars, aggressive side vents, and an aerodynamic front fascia inspired by high-tech hydrofoil superyachts. The vehicle’s striking “Moonlit White Pearl” finish, combined with a coupe-like silhouette and teardrop cabin, gives it a futuristic yet elegant appearance.

Design elements like the upswept decklid, full-width taillight, and large rear diffuser pay homage to Acura’s iconic NSX, while the bold “Acura” branding across the tailgate signals a new era for the brand’s electric vehicles. Massive 23-inch wheels, high-performance brakes, and distinctive neon green calipers tie back to Acura’s Electric Vision Design Study, previously showcased at Monterey Car Week.

“The Acura Performance EV Concept represents the pinnacle of our design and engineering capabilities, taking full advantage of the creative freedom offered by our next-generation EV platform,” said Dave Marek, Acura Design Executive. “This concept introduces design themes that will be integral to future Acura vehicles, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive design.”

Acura’s latest concept will be publicly unveiled at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, followed by a showcase on the Concept Lawn at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. These events, renowned for attracting the world’s top automotive and motorsports enthusiasts, provide the perfect stage for Acura’s electrifying vision of the future.

Meanwhile, Honda is making substantial progress on its EV Hub in Ohio, a key component of its North American EV production strategy. Set to begin operations in late 2025, the hub will lead the reimagining of Honda’s manufacturing approach, establishing a global standard for EV production. This facility will be critical in the production of Acura’s first electric SUV, solidifying Honda’s commitment to a sustainable and electrified future.

“The establishment of the Honda EV Hub in Ohio marks the beginning of a new chapter for Acura and Honda in North America,” said Mike Fischer, Executive Chief Engineer and leader of the Honda North American BEV Project. “This hub will not only set the stage for our EV production but also redefine our manufacturing processes for a new era.”

As Acura continues to push the envelope in electric vehicle design and performance, the Performance EV Concept stands as a testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to innovation, setting the stage for an electrifying future.
