Lucknow, August 13, 2024 — Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) has taken a significant step in its commitment to enhancing education in rural India by expanding its Vidya Vahini Program. With an investment of INR 2.38 Crore, the program is set to benefit 30,000 students across 14 districts in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, providing them with vital access to scientific learning resources.
The expanded initiative introduces five “Mobile Science Libraries” and fifteen “Lab on Bike” units, designed to bring cutting-edge science education to remote government schools. This mobile approach allows students who would otherwise have limited access to modern educational tools and experiments to engage with scientific models and materials, fostering innovation and curiosity.
The program’s first phase, launched in 2022 in Uttar Pradesh, has already reached 10,000 students across five districts, significantly boosting their science education. Now, with the latest expansion, HMIF aims to widen its impact, offering more students the opportunity to thrive in a technology-driven world.
Aligned with India’s National Education Policy, Vidya Vahini also focuses on upskilling teachers in these regions, ensuring that the benefits of the program extend beyond the immediate classroom. Teachers receive training on the latest scientific experiments, equipping them to provide a richer educational experience for their students.
The expansion was officially inaugurated by Shri. Sandeep Singh, Minister of State for Basic Education in Uttar Pradesh, alongside Dr. M K Shanmuga Sundaram (IAS), Principal Secretary, Basic Education Department, and senior officials from HMIL. They praised the program’s thoughtful approach to bridging the educational gap in rural areas, highlighting its potential to inspire future scientists and innovators from every corner of the country.
With the support of implementation partner Agastya Foundation, the Vidya Vahini Program continues to break barriers in rural education, ensuring that every child, regardless of location, has the tools and opportunities to explore the wonders of science.
