Tata Punch Accelerates to 4 Lakh Sales Milestone, Dominates Indian SUV Market

Mumbai, August 2, 2024 – Tata Motors Celebrates Record-Breaking Sales for Tata Punch, India’s Best-Selling Car of FY25

Tata Motors, a leading name in the Indian automotive industry, proudly announces a historic achievement for its subcompact SUV, the Tata Punch. This innovative vehicle has set a new benchmark by becoming the fastest SUV to cross the 4 lakh sales milestone in just 34 months since its launch in October 2021. The Punch has redefined the subcompact SUV category with its striking design, high ground clearance, and commanding driving position, making it a favorite among Indian consumers.

The Punch’s impressive journey began with a GNCAP 5-star safety rating, the highest for adult occupant protection at the time. It swiftly reached 1 lakh sales within 10 months, setting a new industry record. The subsequent milestones followed rapidly: 2 lakh sales in the next 9 months, 3 lakh in 7 months, and now, 4 lakh in 34 months, solidifying its dominance in the market.

Tata Motors’ introduction of the Punch iCNG in 2023, featuring innovative twin-cylinder technology and ample boot space, further disrupted the market. The launch of the Punch.ev in January 2024, offering multiple drivetrains, expanded its appeal to a broader customer base, boosting sales significantly.

The subcompact SUV segment has seen exponential growth, with Tata Punch capturing a dominant 68% market share in FY24. Its pioneering features, such as 90-degree door opening, Electronic Stability Program, Rain Sensing Wipers, and the highest ground clearance in its category, have set new standards. The introduction of the CNG variant further boosted sales, contributing to a 30% growth in the overall Punch brand.

The Punch.ev has also garnered significant attention from EV enthusiasts, contributing an additional 15% to overall sales growth. Built on Tata’s revolutionary acti.ev architecture, the Punch.ev combines long-range capability, exceptional performance, cutting-edge technology, and premium features typically found in higher segments. It has played a crucial role in increasing EV penetration in markets traditionally dominated by ICE models, with 21% of its buyers being first-time car owners.

With a 17.7% market share in the compact SUV segment, the Punch has established itself as the highest-selling vehicle across all segments in FY25. Its success is further evidenced by a 27% year-on-year increase in sales for FY24 and its status as the top-selling SUV from January 2024 to June 2024. The petrol variant leads with 53% of overall Punch sales, followed by the CNG variant at 33% and the EV variant at 14% in CY24.

Tata Motors continues to lead the SUV market with the Punch’s remarkable performance, setting new records and redefining consumer expectations in the Indian automotive industry.
