Ford has resurrected an automotive legend with the launch of the new all-electric Capri, a sports coupe designed for the modern family. This new iteration promises to reinvigorate the EV market with its unique blend of heritage and high-tech innovation.
Rebirth of a Classic
The original Capri, a cult classic from 1969, sold 400,000 units in its first two years and over 1.8 million across three generations. Now, the iconic sports coupe returns, reimagined for the electric age. “Celebrating our past while reinventing our future. A car that only Ford could build. The legend is back,” says Amko Leenarts, Director of Design.
Design and Performance
The new Capri retains the classic four headlamps and the swooping coupe roofline, now updated with modern LED technology and sleek black graphics. Available in bold colors, including Vivid Yellow, the Capri stands out with 19-, 20-, and 21-inch alloy wheel options.
Under the hood, the Capri offers two all-electric powertrains. The 286 PS rear-wheel drive boasts a 627 km range and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. The 340 PS all-wheel drive version provides a 592 km range with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.3 seconds. Both models feature fast charging capabilities, with 10-80% charging in under 30 minutes.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Capri is designed for comfort and convenience. The wrap-around cockpit, minimalist digital interface, and sculptured sports seats with integrated headrests create a futuristic feel. High specification is standard, including heated front seats, a driver’s seat massage function, keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control.
The innovative SYNC Move system allows the 14.6-inch touchscreen to slide up and down, providing customizable angles for optimal interaction. The home screen offers light and dark modes, voice activation, and wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, a hidden compartment, My Private Locker, ensures secure storage for personal devices.
Safety and Assistance
Equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, five cameras, and three radar devices, the Capri offers comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Standard features include Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert with Active Braking, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Premium models add Dynamic Matrix LED headlights and an optional Driver Assist Pack for enhanced safety.
