Rivian Unveils Next-Gen R1S and R1T: Enhanced Power, Tech, and Design

Cutting-Edge Vehicles Boast 1,025 Horsepower and Reach 0-60 in Under 2.5 Seconds, Starting at $69,900 (INR 58.28 lakh)

Rivian has launched the highly anticipated second generation of its flagship models, the R1S SUV and R1T pickup. These vehicles have undergone extensive reengineering, incorporating hundreds of hardware improvements, performance upgrades, a fully revamped software interface, and advanced in-house drive systems. While maintaining the iconic Rivian exterior design, these new models introduce an array of efficiency-boosting features, including zonal electrical architecture and new compute and autonomy platforms.

“Our continuous evolution of the R1 series ensures that we deliver uncompromising quality and performance. The new R1S and R1T push technical boundaries further, representing our most capable products to date,” stated RJ Scaringe, Rivian’s CEO and founder.

Unmatched Performance for Every Adventure

The revamped R1 platform offers enhanced power, performance, and range. A key highlight is the Rivian-designed Quad-Motor configuration delivering 1,025 horsepower and achieving 0-60 mph in under 2.5 seconds, with an impressive 1,198 lb-ft of torque in Launch Mode. Additionally, a new Tri-Motor configuration and a Rivian-built Dual-Motor option are available, all engineered and manufactured entirely in-house.

The new models also feature redesigned Large and Max battery packs, providing up to 420 miles of estimated range. A lithium iron phosphate-based Standard pack offers an EPA-estimated 270 miles of range, appealing to value-conscious customers.

Innovative efficiency improvements include a heat pump-based thermal system, new 22-inch aero wheels reducing drag, and an updated suspension and air springs, ensuring a smoother on-road experience without sacrificing off-road capability.

Advanced Technology Integration

The second-generation R1 vehicles are equipped with a completely new electrical architecture, reducing 17 ECUs from the first-generation vehicles down to 7, and eliminating 1.6 miles of wiring per vehicle.

The Rivian Autonomy Platform, an advanced in-house developed system, provides a substantial leap in capability, utilizing 11 cameras, five radars, and AI prediction technology. This system boasts 10 times more compute power than its predecessor, offering features like high-resolution camera Blind Spot Monitoring and Highway Assist as standard. The premium Rivian Autonomy Platform+ includes Lane Change on Command and will soon offer Enhanced Highway Assist.

New headlights and taillights incorporate Adaptive Drive Beam technology, enhancing road safety by dynamically adapting to oncoming traffic.

Enhanced User Experience and Design

Next-gen R1S and R1T models offer new features, including digital car keys compatible with Apple Wallet and select Google Pixel devices, enabling seamless vehicle access and sharing.

A new Rivian-developed sound system featuring Dolby Atmos® provides an immersive audio experience. Connect+, a subscription service, supports streaming through Google Cast and offers access to over 3,000 apps, including Apple Music, integrated into Rivian’s software platform for ad-free listening with Apple Music’s Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.

Interior enhancements include a Dynamic Glass Roof with electronic tinting, customizable interior lighting, and a redesigned software interface powered by Unreal Engine, offering real-time graphics and a playful, adventurous style.

Two new premium Ascend trims, a Storm Blue exterior paint option, and blackout trim choices round out the updated design features.

Commitment to Efficiency and Sustainability

Rivian’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions is evident in the new R1 models. These vehicles achieve a 15% lower lifetime carbon footprint than the first generation, thanks to improved manufacturing processes, material supply chain efficiencies, and reduced parts count. The innovative electrical zonal architecture significantly lowers manufacturing costs and CO2 emissions, supporting Rivian’s mission to accelerate EV adoption and environmental preservation.

Starting prices for the second generation R1S and R1T are $75,900 and $69,900, respectively. Production is based in Normal, Illinois, with immediate delivery availability.
