Hyundai N returns to Nürburgring aiming for fourth consecutive TCR class victory, unveils new electric race car and announces a partnership with Gran Turismo.
NÜRBURG/SEOUL, May 31, 2024 – Hyundai N is making headlines at the Nürburgring 24 Hours (N24) race with several exciting announcements. The company has revealed its Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec, a vehicle designed for the upcoming Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). Additionally, Hyundai has shared plans to collaborate with Gran Turismo, the popular PlayStation sim-racing video game franchise.
Targeting Victory: Hyundai N’s Motorsport Ambitions
Hyundai N is aiming for its fourth consecutive TCR class victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The team is fielding three Elantra N TCR cars, driven by a global roster of talent from Europe, North America, and China. Defending champions Mikel Azcona, Marc Basseng, and Manuel Lauck return in the #830 car, while the #831 car features Mason Filippi, Harry Gottsacker, Mark Wilkins, and Bryson Morris from the Bryan Herta Autosport team. The #832 car is driven by TCR China stars Martin Cao, Rainey He, Andy Yan, and Zhang Zhen Dong.
In addition to the TCR entries, Hyundai N is also competing in the VT2 Front-Wheel-Drive class with the Hyundai Driving Experience i30 Fastback N, featuring last year’s winners Marcus Willhardt, Michael Bohrer, Jens Dralle, and Gyumin Kim.
Unveiling the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec
Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, set to compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, was unveiled at the event. This high-performance electric vehicle, boasting 687 PS, is designed to highlight the capabilities of the Ioniq 5 N production model. Enhancements include software tuning to maximize output, motorsport-spec brakes, and a unique aerodynamic package.
Two Ioniq 5 N TA Spec models will compete alongside two Ioniq 5 N production vehicles, driven by notable racers including Robin Shute and Dani Sordo. The team aims to set records in the Electric Production SUV/Crossover and Electric Modified SUV/Crossover categories.
Partnership with Gran Turismo
Hyundai N announced a new collaboration with Gran Turismo, building on a relationship that began with the release of the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo in 2015. This partnership will include various sim-racing activities and promotions, particularly focused on PPIHC participation. Visitors to Hyundai’s N24 booth can experience Gran Turismo 7 and participate in on-site competitions.
A Legacy of Performance
Hyundai’s history at Pikes Peak dates back to 1992, with significant achievements including a course record set in 2012. The latest Ioniq 5 N TA Spec continues this legacy, showcasing Hyundai’s commitment to high-performance electric vehicles and motorsport innovation.
