Lucknow, May 7, 2024: Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, marked a major milestone with the production of its 9,00,000th vehicle at its advanced Lucknow facility. This momentous event was commemorated with a flag-off ceremony attended by Mr. Durga Shanker Mishra, Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, alongside Tata Motors executives.
Spread over a vast 600-acre campus, the state-of-the-art plant symbolizes Tata Motors’ dedication to sustainable manufacturing. Recognized as a water-positive facility by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), it hosts a 6MW solar power plant, reducing its carbon footprint significantly. Key features include a robotic paint booth and a body-in-white shop with robotic welding, which together enhance production efficiency and quality. Since starting operations in 1992, the Lucknow facility has produced an array of commercial vehicles, including electric and fuel cell buses.
Addressing the ceremony, Durga Shanker Mishra lauded Tata Motors for achieving this milestone. “This achievement underscores Tata Motors’ pivotal role in providing advanced, safer, and greener mobility solutions to meet current and future demands. Their strong commitment to women’s empowerment, with over 22% of new hires this year being women, is a significant step forward in the manufacturing sector.”
Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head of Operations for Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, emphasized the facility’s role in advancing the company’s electric vehicle ambitions. “The Lucknow plant has been central to manufacturing our electric buses, delivering over 1,200 units that have collectively covered hundreds of thousands of kilometers nationwide. Uttar Pradesh remains a key market, and government initiatives have supported the growth of commercial vehicle sales.”
Plant Head Mahesh Suguru noted that achieving this milestone is a testament to the facility’s commitment to excellence and innovation. “By integrating cutting-edge technologies, we’ve optimized workflows and improved production standards to deliver superior vehicles that surpass customer expectations.”
Tata Motors is making strides in gender inclusivity at its Lucknow facility, where women now comprise a third of the technical workforce. They are engaged across operational shifts and equipped with skills essential for the production of a diverse product range. The company’s comprehensive training and workshops for women staff have reinforced its commitment to their advancement.
As Tata Motors celebrates this milestone, it reinforces its vision for sustainable, inclusive, and technologically advanced manufacturing.
