Hoshiarpur, Punjab: In a significant move to enhance Punjab’s infrastructure and road connectivity, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated 29 National Highway projects in Hoshiarpur today. The projects, which represent an investment of over Rs 4,000 crore, mark a major step towards the state’s development. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Som Prakash, Punjab BJP State President Sunil Kumar, along with several MPs, MLAs, and officials.
These newly inaugurated and foundation-laid projects are expected to substantially improve local infrastructure, catalyzing the economic growth of the area and enhancing the quality of life for residents. Key benefits include seamless traffic flow and increased efficiency in freight transportation.
A highlight of the project is the construction of a 4-lane section between Phagwara and Hoshiarpur, including bypasses for both cities. This development is poised to facilitate high-speed connectivity at 100 kmph, slashing the travel time from 1 hour to just 30 minutes. The Phagwara and Hoshiarpur bypasses will also alleviate urban congestion and provide direct access to Hoshiarpur via National Highway 44 (GT Road). Additionally, the construction of the 4-lane Ladowal Bypass in Ludhiana will link the GT Road directly with National Highway 5, enhancing the connection between the Ludhiana-Ferozepur Highway and the Delhi-Jalandhar Highway (National Highway 44).
Further improvements include the 4-laning of the Talwandi Bhai to Firozpur section and the Firozpur bypass, which will elevate safety standards and enable faster travel on these highways. These projects will also boost access to religious sites and inter-state connectivity in the project areas.
Gadkari also announced several new road connectivity projects during the event. Among these are the construction of a 45 km, 4-lane bypass at Mukerian, Dasuiya, and Bhogpur on the Jalandhar to Pathankot route, budgeted at Rs 1600 crore, and a 30 km, 4-lane bypass from Tanda to Hoshiarpur, costing Rs 800 crore. These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity in Punjab.
