Haas F1 Team replaces Guenther Steiner with Ayao Komatsu as New Team Principal

In a significant move, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team has announced the appointment of Ayao Komatsu as its new Team Principal. This change comes as Guenther Steiner steps down from the role, concluding a decade-long tenure at the helm of the team’s operations. Komatsu, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in Formula 1, transitions to this leadership position from his former role as Director of Engineering.

Komatsu’s journey in the high-octane world of Formula 1 began with a stint at British American Racing, followed by a substantial period at Renault. He joined MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in its inaugural season in 2016, initially serving as Chief Race Engineer. His extensive background in both engineering and management makes him a strong fit for the responsibilities ahead.

As Team Principal, Komatsu’s primary focus will be on refining the team’s overall strategy and enhancing on-track performance. He aims to leverage employee empowerment, coupled with structural process improvements, to maximize the team’s potential. This approach underscores MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s commitment to engineering excellence in its management strategy.

Further bolstering the team’s operational capabilities, a new Chief Operating Officer will be appointed to manage non-competition aspects of the business. This role, crucial for supporting Komatsu’s performance-oriented goals, will be based at the team’s Banbury facility in Europe.

Gene Haas, the Team Owner, expressed gratitude to Guenther Steiner for his contributions and emphasized the need for improved on-track performances as a driving factor behind this leadership shift. Haas underlined the importance of engineering in achieving the team’s long-term objectives and expressed confidence in Komatsu’s ability to lead the team to success.

Ayao Komatsu, in his remarks, shared his enthusiasm and commitment to steering MoneyGram Haas F1 Team towards greater achievements in Formula 1. Acknowledging the recent competitive challenges, he stressed the importance of aligning the team’s efforts with the support and expectations of partners and fans.

As the team prepares for the upcoming 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, starting with pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, all eyes will be on Komatsu’s leadership and the new direction he steers MoneyGram Haas F1 Team towards. The season is set to kick off with the Bahrain Grand Prix, marking a new era for the team under Komatsu’s guidance.
