Milton Keynes – In a remarkable feat, Volkswagen has solidified its position as the United Kingdom’s leading new-car brand for the third consecutive year. According to the latest data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the German automaker registered a total of 162,087 new passenger vehicles in the UK in 2023. This figure not only surpasses last year’s sales by over 30,000 units but also secures Volkswagen an 8.52% share of the UK market, marking a 0.35% increase from the previous year.
Volkswagen’s success story in the UK extends to the electric vehicle (EV) segment, where its ID. models have made significant strides. The ID.3 and ID.4 were among the top-10 best-selling EVs in 2023, with 10,295 and 8,495 registrations, respectively. The company’s continuous innovation was evident in 2023 with the launch of updated versions of its all-electric ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5 models, and the refreshed Touareg. The brand also introduced unique models like the Polo GTI Edition 25 and Golf Black Edition, further diversifying its portfolio.
In an ambitious move for 2024, Volkswagen plans to expand its electric lineup with the introduction of the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer. Additional highlights include the celebration of the iconic Golf’s 50th anniversary and the launch of the new Tiguan and Passat models.
Rod McLeod, Director of Volkswagen UK, expressed his delight at the brand’s performance, attributing the success to the quality of their vehicles and the exceptional service provided by their network partners. He emphasized the brand’s commitment to expanding its award-winning ID. range and the anticipation of introducing new and exciting products in the year ahead.
As Volkswagen gears up for its future endeavors, its continued dominance in the UK car market and proactive approach to embracing electric mobility signal a strong and innovative direction for the brand.
