Mumbai: Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML) has crossed 4 lakh cumulative electric vehicle sales, becoming India’s first commercial EV manufacturer to reach the milestone across passenger and cargo last-mile segments, the company announced on Thursday.
The milestone further strengthens MLMML’s position in India’s electric commercial vehicle market, where it has been the country’s No. 1 electric commercial vehicle manufacturer for four consecutive financial years.
Mahindra said its electric commercial vehicles have collectively travelled more than 9 billion kilometres, helping avoid approximately 185,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions. According to the company, the avoided emissions are equivalent to planting more than 8.3 million trees.
The cumulative sales include electric vehicles across Mahindra’s passenger and cargo portfolio, including the UDO, Treo range, Zor Grand, ZEO and e-Alfa.
For the last-mile mobility sector, where a three-wheeler or small commercial vehicle is often less a lifestyle purchase and more an office on wheels, running costs and daily earnings can play a decisive role in the transition to electric vehicles.
Mahindra said its approach has focused on making EV ownership economically viable for drivers, entrepreneurs, delivery partners and small businesses, rather than positioning electrification solely as an environmental choice.
The company has also invested in financing, customer support, partnerships and product development as it seeks to widen EV adoption in India’s commercial transport sector.
MLMML is now working towards putting one million electric vehicles on the road by 2031, a target that would more than double its current cumulative sales base.
Suman Mishra, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited said, “4 Lakh is not just a number for us — it is 4 Lakh livelihoods we helped power every single day. This milestone belongs to the drivers and entrepreneurs who chose electric, and to the partners and teams who made electric mobility a practical choice for India’s last mile economy. At Mahindra, our focus remains clear: build better products, strengthen the ecosystem and make electric mobility accessible for every last mile customer.”
The 4 lakh milestone highlights the growing role of electrification in India’s last-mile transport economy, particularly in segments where vehicles typically cover substantial daily distances and operating costs directly affect owners’ incomes. As manufacturers expand their electric commercial vehicle portfolios and supporting ecosystems, the next phase of adoption is likely to depend as much on economics and reliability as on environmental ambitions.
