Kia India launches emission checks, e-waste collection, green training and plantation activities; 132 Green Workshops now generate 9.8 MW solar power
New Delhi: Kia India has announced a nationwide sustainability drive across its 500-plus workshops and corporate offices to mark World Environment Day, observed on June 5. The initiative focuses on customer awareness, responsible workshop practices, e-waste collection, renewable energy adoption and community engagement. In simpler words, Kia is trying to make its workshops greener — and not just by parking cars under trees.
As part of the campaign, participating Kia workshops across India will offer complimentary vehicle emission checks to customers. The company will also conduct focused awareness sessions on vehicle performance and its environmental impact, helping customers understand how regular maintenance can contribute to cleaner mobility and better efficiency.
A major part of the initiative is Kia India’s e-waste awareness and collection campaign for customers and employees. Under this drive, selected workshops will act as authorised collection centres for discarded electronic waste. The company aims to collect more than 1,000 kilograms of e-waste across 31 locations. That is a sizeable pile of old chargers, wires and forgotten gadgets finally getting a more dignified retirement than lying in a drawer marked “useful someday”.
Speaking on the initiative, Bhimsen Gulabani, Vice President – Customer Experience, Kia India, said, “Sustainability is not an event; it is an integral part of our business strategy and culture. It is reflected in the way we operate and engage with communities every day. Our workshop network interacts with customers regularly, giving us a unique opportunity to promote awareness and encourage responsible practices at scale. Through initiatives such as emission checks, e-waste collection drives and community engagement activities, we aim to make sustainability a part of everyday customer interactions and contribute to meaningful environmental impact.”
Kia India will also organise specialised training programmes for workshop personnel on proper handling, storage and disposal of used oil. The move is aimed at improving waste management standards across the network and ensuring responsible environmental practices in day-to-day operations.
In addition, Kia workshops will carry out sapling distribution and plantation drives across multiple locations. The company will also host customer engagement and awareness sessions to promote sustainable practices, resource conservation and environmental responsibility.
Renewable energy forms another key part of Kia India’s sustainability roadmap. The company currently has 132 Green Workshops across its network, collectively generating 9.8 MW of solar power. These facilities support cleaner operations, improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. Essentially, while cars come in for service, the workshops are also quietly doing their own version of charging up under the sun.
Atul Sood, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said, “At Kia India, sustainability is embedded across our value chain, from our nationwide network to our state-of-the-art Anantapur Manufacturing Facility. Through renewable energy adoption, resource-efficient operations and responsible green practices, we continue to strengthen our commitment to a sustainable environment. Initiatives such as these reflect our broader vision of advancing sustainable mobility while creating long-term value for society and the environment.”
Beyond its workshop network, Kia India continues to focus on environmental initiatives at its Anantapur manufacturing facility. The company has adopted renewable energy, responsible resource management and water conservation practices, including systems that allow the reuse of treated wastewater and improve energy utilisation across operations.
With this World Environment Day campaign, Kia India is taking sustainability beyond boardroom presentations and placing it directly into workshops, offices and customer interactions. And in a country where every little improvement counts, even an emission check, a sapling, or one properly recycled phone charger can be a small but meaningful step toward a cleaner future.
